The first Boss Battle in Darksiders II is really a warm up instead of a difficult fight. The game provides the majority of the commands you’ll need via in-game prompts, pausing time so you’re able to read them and activate them efficiently. The Ice Giant only has one real ability, a quick combination of his fists pounding the ground. He can kill you in 3-4 hits so you want to avoid it, but that’s easily done.
You’ll want to make sure you’re using the lock-on button, it makes the fight practically impossible to fail. Once you’ve locked on to the Ice Giant wait for him to launch his ability and then use the dodge key to avoid his attack. Depending on your distance it’s best to dodge in different directions. If you’re at long range, dodge to the side, if you’re close, dodge through its legs. You can then release a parry of blows before he uses the ability again. Then it’s just a matter of rinse and repeat. Make sure you’ve got a secondary weapon equipped, I used a large maul with high top-end damage, made the fight no problem at all.
