The Witcher 3 Guide: Gwent Guide, Hero And Leader Cards

The Witcher 3 Guide: Gwent Hero And Leader Card Locations
Gwent is the card game played in the world of the Witcher. The game is a decent way of making some quick cash and a good way of getting crafting materials. This The Witcher 3 Guide: Gwent Guide, Hero And Leader Cards, Player Locations & Rewards will feature everything you need to master the game and boost the power of your deck.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Guide: Gwent Leader Cards

Scoiatael Leader Cards
Insem Grim Fasoltiarna – You get this if you pick the cards at the end of the side quest “A Dangerous Game”. Her passive doubles the strength of all ranged units for one turn.

Northern Realms Leader Cards
Foltest – Lord Commander Of The North – You can buy this from the Innkeeper in White Orchard for I believe 50 Crowns. His leadership ability is basically a Clear Weather card. There’s a slight problem getting this card if you are not in the area anymore. After you leave, the Innkeeper disappears and I haven’t found her again. I will keep looking and look for another person to buy this card from!

Foltest – The Siege Master – In order to get this card you need to beat the Nilfgaardian Noble in the Royal Palace in Vizima. You can find him sitting on a bench near the fountain. He had a ! for me when I first got here. He is beatable with the starter deck but it is very difficult. Try to bring a fog card because he uses alot of archers.

Nilfgaardian Leader Cards
Emhyr Var Emreis – Emperor Of Nilfgaard – After you beat the guy at the Inn at the Crossroads he will sell this card for 50 gold. This is the card that will let you see three random cards in your opponents hand.
Monster Leader Cards
Eredin – Bringer Of Death – I think this is for beating the Gwent: Velen Players quest, if not it is from Haddy at the end of the quest. With his power you discard two of your cards and pick one from your deck.

Eredin – King Of The Wild Hunt You obtain this card through purchase, buying it from Jonas The Innkeep in Skellige. He can double the attack power of the Closed Combat line assuming a horn is not in place.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Guide: Gwent Hero Cards

Neutral Hero Cards
These cards can be placed in any deck.

Yennefer Of Vengerberg – You get this card from the Innkeper in Oxenfurt, Innkeeps name is Stjenpan. Yennefer Of Vengerber – 7 attack and can take a unit card from your discard pile and replay it. I am not 100% sure if I needed to be on the Gwent card quest for this one or not.

Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon – If you beat the Elf in the woods for the “Gwent – Big Cities Players” game you will get this card. This is a 15 damage neutral hero card.

GeraltPlay Gwent with Thaler after you escort him out of the troll cave. He uses the Scoia’tael deck. He has Geralt as one of his cards which is a 15 hero, if you beat him you get Geralt.

Northern Realm Hero Cards
Vernon Roche – 10 Attack Hero for Northern Realms. You get this from Haddy at the end of the Gwent: Velen Players quest.

John Natalis – You get this is you take the cards from the side quest “A Dangerous Grade”. This is a 10 damage Northern Realm hero.

Nilfgaardian Empire Hero Cards
Letho Of Gulet – 10 Attack Hero card – From the Boat Wright in Oreton during the Velen Gwent Players Quest. You cannot play this guy without the quest.

Morvran Voorhis – 10 Attack hero card NilfGaardian Empire – Beat Marquise Serenity in the big city in Novigrad to get this card. I think you need the Gwent: Playing the innkeeps quest to play her.

Tibor Eggebracht – 10 Damage Hero Nilfgaardian Empire. Beat the Innkeep in Novigrad for Gwent: Playing the Innkeeps quest.

Menno Coehoorn – 10 Damage Hero with revvie Nilfgaardian Empire – Got from the Innkeep at the crossroads for Gwent: Playing the Innkeeps quest.

Monster Hero Cards
Imlerith – I have this card in my deck but I didn’t mark down where I got it. It is a 10 power hero card and I am pretty sure I got it somewhere in Velen.

Kayran – You win this card from the Armorer in Skellige Isles, Urialla Harbor. It has a rating of 8, can bring a single card back from your discard pile and can be placed in either Close Combat or Ranged slots.

The Witcher Gwent Guide: Gwent Players, Card Rewards

As well as the rare and powerful Hero & Leader cards you can obtain in Gwent, there’s dozens of lesser powerful but equally important cards that you can collect on your travels. The Witcher 3 Guide: Quests Relating To Gwent & Featuring Card Rewards

Gwent: Velen Players
You can obtain this quest when you encounter the Bloody Baron during the main quest line. After you agree to search for his family and check the area for clues he will return to his room. Challenge him to a game of Gwent to unlock the quest, beating him is the first objective. After defeating the Bloody Baron head a distance South of Crow’s Perch to Oreton, a small village on the shore. There you will find a Boatwright, defeating him is the next objective. The third player you must defeat is Haddy, he can be found to the West in the town of Midcopse. After defeating the initial three another objective opens, defeating Soothsayer. The Soothsayer, or Old Sage when you first meet him, can be found in the small village of Benek. The village is on the far Eastern shores of Velen, East of Reardon Manor, North East of Downwarren. If you have yet to discover either of these locations check your map for Hanged Man’s Tree and then head South East. Cross the small river with the 3 bridges and continue South East. From the Eastern bridge, Benek is the second village to the South.

I am updating this as I go so check back for more cards soon! If you know one I missed be sure to leave a comment and help us out.

The Witcher 3 Place Of Power Location Guide

This The Witcher 3 Place Of Power Location Guide lists all of the Places of Power that you can discover in the various environments throughout the game. They are typically found at points of interest

  • Rowler

The Eredin – Bringer Of Death card is actually from playing the Soothsayer in the Gwent:Velen Players quest.

    • benmay22367

I got it after beating Haddy in the (Gwent:Velen Players contract). When I looked after beating the soothsayer it wasn’t there. Had to beat the whole contract to get it.

  • Andrew Nissen

The “Foltest – Lord Commander of the North” card is still available for purchase after leaving White Orchard, though it is now sold by the merchant near the inn (the man you rescue from the Griffin in the prologue) instead of the innkeeper.

    • benmay22367

Help!! lol somehow the merchant still doesn’t have the Lord Commander card. The old lady is gone from the inn as well. I’ve done the download. Am I doing something wrong?

  • Lesser

Blacksmith in Blackbough – gave me this “Philipa Eilhart – Ranged power 10, Northern Realms, hero card”

(being curious, as it was not what was listed in your guide, I reloaded save and got)

“Assire Var Anahid – Ranged power 6, Nilfgaardian Empire” – instead of ^

    —-
Trader in Blackbough – “Ghoul – melee power 1, Monster”
    —-
Trader in Crows Perch – “Dol Blathana Scout – (agile) ranged / melee power 6, Scoia’tael”

The reload save test aside, its interesting that all the cards were different from the ones you had listed (not cracking on your guide, its actually the best one available as it groups cards by location, every other guide just lists them all and not even in alphabetical order).

I believe some are set – major encounters for instance, the bloody baron, or quest related players (haven’t gotten much farther so I can’t say for sure), while others remain random > traders / merchant / smiths (or any other random gwent players) – I’m kinda curious if the random players have a set pool they can each only give you one card from, as in it might be good to replay (reloading saves of course) them multiple times to get the best result.

It could also be possible the random players have a pool that depletes so you still eventually get all the cards. Have a feeling this is more likely.

Just wanted to add to your great guide and I’m glad I found it, Thanks!!!

  • Teutos

Foltest – Lord Commander Of The North : After the Innkeeper disappeared, the card is now (1.04) available to purchase from the Merchant right between the Inn and the Bridge (Waypoint). I think it is the merchant I rescued from a cage before.

    • benmay22367

Hi. somehow the merchant still doesn’t have the Lord Commander card. The old lady is gone from the inn as well. I’ve done the download. Am I doing something wrong?

  • Lesser

    Just an update (thoroughly tested)

All traders / smiths / merchants / any NON-quest related gwent players, are 100% random, they reward 1 card upon beating them the first time, any subsequent wins will only give random crafting materials (usually low quality).

Quest related gwent players always reward specific cards (velen players / innkeepers / big city questlines etc).

The NON-quest players hand out their card (randomly) from a set pool and you will eventually collect them all, you can reload saves to try for a better card or one from a deck your trying to flesh out, but it’s still just random luck.

The locations in this guide are spot on, however most of the cards will be random just the same.
    ————
One thing worth REALLY mentioning is, there is NO and I repeat NO trader / merchant in “Midscope” – all the guides or anything you’ve read is wrong, the merchant that sells those cards is located in “Lindenvale” – which is directly east of Crows Perch (first large city, hard to miss, he also only shows up during the day).

P.S. the “The Eredin – Bringer Of Death card” is just a reward for completing the whole “velen players” questline, so whoever you play last ends up giving it to you.

    • Greatly appreciate the time you took to help us improve the guide 😀 By the time I’d realized the cards were random I’d added so much information it seemed counter-productive to just remove it all and replace it with “Random Card” etc.

If the Gwent cards had 100% of my time I would have had more extensive information available but Witcher 3 is friggin huge so often I was side tracked updating other content. Will be diving back into things soon and hope to continue to update the Gwent Cards.

Thanks again for all the help 😀
