Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Merc Missions Guide
Get your Merc Group ready! This Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Merc Missions Guide will go over the various mechanics of the Merc Group feature including what Blades to send on what mission, how to unlock new Merc Group missions and the other benefits and rewards of this mini-game. When you complete Chapter Three of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Vandham leaves you in charge of his band of mercenaries. It unlocks a mini-game that lets you send off your spare Blade’s on missions around the world.
Every mission has requirements and rewards as well as Suggested Field Skills.
Choosing Your Team
When choosing your team you need to focus on two main elements. Firstly, the Mission Requirements. If you do not fill these requirements you cannot begin the mission. If you simply scroll through all the different Blades you have, watch the numbers on Mission Requirements. It will change from 0 to 1 if you are highlighting a Blade that fits the requirements. This makes the selection process much quicker, and you don’t have to keep checking stats.
The other element, Suggested Field Skills, works in the same way. Once your Mission Requirements are fulfilled, browse through the rest of your Blades to see if any change the numbers on the Suggested Field Skill section. Having the requirements guarantees success in a mission, but adding additional Field Skills can greatly reduce the duration. Having something simple, such as level 1 in 3 Field Skills, can reduce the time by 10-15%, so it’s well worth looking to stack those as much as possible.
Merc Missions Rewards
The rewards for Merc Missions are more than worth the time invested. Every mission offers a small amount of Gold, Experience Points and Merc Points, alongside other various benefits. You can unlock equipment for your team, and special contracts. These contracts are tied to a specific shop in the region, granting additional stock options once unlocked. These extra items to buy are vital if you want to buy the deeds for the special shop bonuses.
Merc Missions are also a fantastic way of increasing your Trust with different Blades, and is also one of the best ways to level up your Idea Points quickly, so make sure you send your Mercs out at every opportunity.
Unlocking New Merc Missions
There are a variety of ways to unlock new Merc Missions. The primary method is to simply progress. Each time you complete a Merc Mission you are rewarded with Merc Points, these go towards your overall Merc Level. As you increase your Merc Level you unlock new missions in new areas and can take additional teams out at the same time.
The other method to unlock new missions is to speaking with people in each area. You will notice that a new UI symbol becomes visible, a sword and shields type icon. You can see it floating over the head of the NPC in the above picture. There are different NPC’s at night and during the day so run around an area during both times to ensure you’ve unlocked all the Merc Missions for your current Merc Level.
