Borderlands The Pre-Sequel
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is the third game in the Borderlands series and serves as an interquel between the events of Borderlands and Borderlands 2. The game was originally only released for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, but was later included in the Borderlands: The Handsome Collection for the PS4 and Xbox One. The game is notably developed by 2K Australia, while previous games in the series were developed exclusively by Gearbox Software.
The game follows Handsome Jack, who would later become the villain in Borderlands 2. During the events of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!, Handsome Jack is merely an employee of the Hyperion Corporation. When the company’s Helious space station is targeted by a military organization known as the Lost Legion, Handsome Jack commissions a group of four characters to regain control over Helios and defeat the Lost Legion.
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! features a wave of new mechanics, such as low-gravity gameplay and new weapons that can fire ice and laser at enemies. Enemies hit with ice weapons may freeze and then can be shattered into pieces using melee attacks. The low-gravity gameplay has an impact both in-combat and out of it, as players must now be quick to grab loot before it floats away. The player can also fight in space, for which they require oxygen kits.Oxygen can also be used like a jetpack to perform double jumps, hovering and ground-slamming attacks. A new “Grinder” machine allows players to deposit their old weapons and withdraw a rarer weapon. The game also includes news weapons: a moon buggy and a type of hoverbike called the Stingray.
The game’s four playable characters include Athena the Gladiator, Nisha the Lawbringer, Wilhelm the Enforcer and Claptrap the Fragtrap. The DLC content also features new characters: Jack the Doppelganger, a body double of Handsome Jack who can use digital copies of Jack to assist him in battle; and Aurelia the Baroness, the sister of Sir Hammerlock from Borderlands 2. Aurelia uses an experimental “Frost Diadem Shard” to deal ice elemental damage to enemies.
