Mortal Kombat X

Mortal Kombat X
Mortal Kombat X is the tenth Mortal Kombat game, and the second Mortal Kombat game developed by NetherRealm Studios. As with previous Mortal Kombat games, Mortal Kombat X is a fighting game in which players control a member of the Mortal Kombat roster: stretching up to 29 characters, both new and old, including such series veterans as Scorpion, Johnny Cage, Sub-Zero and Sonya Blade. After picking their fighter, players compete in a fighting duel against either another player or the CPU in grueling, ultra-violent combat to the death. The game features several play modes: Story, 1 vs 1 Ranked, King of the Hill, Survivor and Test Your Luck, as well as Living Towers, a brand new play mode. Another new addition is Faction Wars, in which players choose one of five factions and join a persistent online cross-platform competition with other players, earning rewards as they go. Each character has three different variations: as an example, Mortal Kombat’s signature fighter Scorpion has one variation in which he wields dual swords, another in which he relies on fiery special moves, and a third in which he can summon hellspawn minions to assist him in the fight.

Mortal Kombat’s signature “Fatalities” return, making for gruesome executions. The game also features the return of the energy meter, originally introduced in the previous Mortal Kombat game, which allows players to perform special techniques. One feature borrowed from Injustice: Gods Among Us is the ability to interact with the environment and use it to your advantage, such as using parts of the environment as weapons. Mortal Kombat X also marks the return of the Sprint Gauge, as well as the introduction of two new types of fatalities: in Quitality, a player is penalized for quitting a multiplayer match by suffering a brutal finishing move, while in Faction Kills, the finishing move depends on the character’s alliance with one of the game’s five factions.

The game is set two years after the defeat of Shao Kahn. With Shinnok attacking Earthrealm with his army of NetherRealm demons, a strike team is formed, led by Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade and Kenshi as they open a portal to Raiden’s Sky Temple. Meanwhile, Earthrealm warriors who were killed during Kahn’s invasions are now resurrected as revenants under Quan Chi’s control.
