Cosplay Wednesday – Grand Theft Auto V’s Bikini Girl

Cosplay Wednesday – Grand Theft Auto V’s Bikini Girl
Grand Theft Auto V’s got countless NPCs, groups, gangs, and more to meet and interact with, but one character that does NOT make the rounds is the bikini girl seen in all the advertisements and loading screens. Much like Grand Theft Auto IV’s lollipop girl, this bikini girl has received a number of real-life tributes.

Kate Upton was originally thought to be the Grand Theft Auto V bikini girl. This Sports Illustrated swimsuit model certainly looks the part, and is a dead ringer for the character. However, it turns out she was not the one Rockstar Games based her likeness off of.

Rather, the character was based off of model Shelby Welinder. She was hired by video game producer Rockstar through her agency to model for the advertisement in the fall of 2012, and is featured in the credits. Not only can you find her side of the tale here, you can also find the invoice Rockstar Games sent her for her work.

There are also fans like Kirsty Johnson (top) and Alissa Barry (above) who did their own shoots.

There’s no denying that all four of these women have her likeness down.
