Opals are a special kind of currency in Assassins Creed Valhalla. You have to explore the main story for a bit and upgrade your settlement but after a while you will be introduced to the Market, marked by a Market icon on your map. Once you have unlocked the Market feature at your Settlement, you will find Markets in most major towns and cities as you explore England – and some tucked away in the woods too.

You can gain Opals in two different ways. Firstly, you can find them when exploring the game world. This is not the best source of Opals as usually, you only find a single Opal and if you’ve checked the Market, you know the rewards can be incredibly expensive. Use your Raven when exploring and look for the Opal icon to make sure you don’t miss any.
The primary source, offering far higher numbers of Opals, are contract missions. Once you have unlocked Markets, speak with the Market owner whenever you reach a new town with a new Market. You can get different Opal missions on a daily basis and the rewards change on a regular basis as well. Contracts are limited so it’s a good idea to do them as they appear, if you want to save enough Opals to buy some of the games more impressive cosmetic items.
