God of War has a unique progression system that ties your abilities and overall level with the quality and advancement levels of your gear. As such, getting stronger gear and better enchantments is a top priority for some of the more challenging and end-game content.
Below is a list of the best sets we’ve found in the game so far. We’ve only included information on the torso but typically each set has a collection of pieces that cater towards a certain style of play, with preference in Strength, Defense or Runic – or a combination of the three.
The two Dwarf brothers play a vital part in your join but never more so than when they introduce the legendary Royal Dwarven armor. Two sets are available, one Brok’s choice and one Sindri’s. Between them they have the stats to compliment any play style, making this a good armor choice for players in the mid game stage. You unlock these sets by completing the Hail To The King Favor.
A powerful set that unlocks just after chapter 10 in the main story. There are three different sets of Mist armor, which vary in stats but all provide a Regenerating Essence effect. This is vital to surviving the games more difficult end-game challenges, specifically Niflheim, so it’s one you’ll be sure to put on your list.
Depending on your combat ability and your exploration habits, the Traveler set is actually one you can get quite early in the game. It’s a single set but boasts a good balance of Strength, Vitality and Defense while also offering a protective barrier. You may have to verge off the beaten path to pick up some of the required items but it’s a great set for those looking to have a more sustained early to mid game. Without a doubt my personal favorite. These collection of armor sets, 3 in total, are a damage dealers best friend. Plenty of Strength, Defense and Vitality, alongside 3 enchantment slots on the main piece. It’s an incredible armor set.
Tyr is a legend in these parts and it’s arguably the best looking set in the entire game. It offers solid bonuses for start to late game play and isn’t very difficult to get either. You need to complete Dead Freight and The Anatomy of Hope, as well as a few story missions to get the full set.
