You begin the game with a few variations of skins but you can also unlock skins with hidden collectibles. Once a skin has been unlocked you can use it to change the appearance of your equipment, although sometimes it does take additional materials – especially for the cooler, military type fatigues.
To change your equipment skins is simple. Head to your home base and go up to the crafting table. The Weapons Workbench works fine. From there you will see a list of all your weapons and equipment. Select the piece of equipment that you want to change and then you have several new options that appear.
Strengthen, Perk Settings, Option Parts Settings and Color Settings. If Color Settings is not available, that piece of equipment cannot be changed. If Color Settings is available, select it and you will see all the different colors and skins available. From there it’s as simple as picking one to unlock and, assuming you have the right materials, putting it on that piece of equipment.
