Sadly you’re not able to cook free food at the start of the game. You have to progress through until you reach account level 7, this is the level displayed in the upper left corner of the screen. Once you’ve reached this level you unlock your very first Hobby, cooking. Once you have learned the Cooking Hobby you need to head to the shopping menu and purchase a Basic Stove. You can also purchase a Microwave to create additional options. The first level of the Cooking Hobby just allows you to do Bake Sales, which can earn you a few Simoleons if you’re low, but progress through to level 2 and you open another option – Make a Meal

Once you reach level 2 you’re able to Make a Meal. This works in the more traditional way that The Sims fans will recognize. Your Sim will prepare a plate of Food at the cost of some energy and hygiene, no Simoleons needed. At the earlier levels it’s only enough to feed one but as you progress you’re able to cooker large, more nutritious meals that can feed more Sims and reduce your food costs even further.
