How To Cross The River In Animal Crossing New Horizons

How To Cross The River In Animal Crossing New Horizons
Want to cross the water and explore more of your island? This guide explains How To Cross The River In Animal Crossing New Horizons as regardless of what starting island you chose, sooner or later you will be faced with a stream of water that you cannot pass.

Your island is full of rare and interesting resources, bugs, fish, and other creatures. At the beginning of your adventure much of your island is inaccessible. This is due to rivers and streams that are blocking your path. There’s plenty of trees, rocks, water, and other valuable resource nodes in the initial part of your island but if you want to expand and explore further out into the wilderness, you will need to cross the river.

How To Cross The River In Animal Crossing New Horizons

In order to cross the river you will need 5x Soft Wood (use an axe to get wood) and the recipe for the Vaulting Pole. The Vaulting Pole is a special tool that you can craft and then equip. When used on the bank of a river, your character will use the vaulting pole by placing it into the river and then vaulting across to the other side. It only works on thin rivers and streams, the distance is limited, and cannot be used to traverse long distances.

The Vaulting Pole recipe is locked behind story progress. You must work with Tom Nook on discovering a combination of 5 insects and/or fish. Once you have delivered those to him, his museum friend will arrive on the island within 24 hours of real time. Once Blathers arrives, speak with him at his museum and he will teach you a couple of things. Firstly he will tell you how to make a shovel and then he will tell you the recipe for the Vaulting Pole so you can cross rivers.
