How To Fish In Animal Crossing New Horizons
In order to fish in Animal Crossing New Horizons, you will first need to get a fishing pole. You can craft one after you talk with Tom Nook and he gives you the DIY recipe. When you have a fishing pool, head to the river or to the beach and look for a fish shadow. You then want to cast out ahead of where the fish is staring, so they see the float land. Now you wait for the fish to bite. When the controller shakes hard, or the float goes under, that is when you mash A to bring up your catch. Sometimes they bite on the first go, other times it takes for or five nibbles first, you never really know. Also note that in the river the fish swim against the current, so cast a little ahead of them to have the bait float towards the fish.
As you progress, you can get better tools from the Nook Terminal. With the better tools, you can craft a stronger fishing pole that will last longer and make it easier to catch bigger fish. It will take some extra iron to get it built, but the durability is more than worth it. Also highly recommend bringing one of these if you leave your island to go to a resource island for extra goodies. Those islands will have some fish you might not be able to access at home.
