The single best source of Ancient Tablets are Ancient Ruins. There are many of these scattered throughout the game world. You can differentiate them from other icons by the red tower icon. However, there are multiple versions of these.

One is a solid tower with a curved bottom. These are usually Spartan strongholds in a state of good repair and well guarded. These do not have Ancient Tablets. You are looking for the red tower icons in disrepair, with a large chunk missing from the side.

As you find more of these on your travels, complete the objectives there to get Ancient Tablets. Luckily you always get a good few for each area but they are still hard to come by.
