How To Get Perfect Hides In Red Dead 2
We made a guide on where to find animals and how to get perfect pelts from them here if you are interested. The key to knowing if you can get a perfect hide of an animal in Red Dead 2 is the stars. If you look beneath the name of the animal it will have one, two or three stars. Only three star animals have a perfect hide. The second trick is to land the headshot. If you damage the hide it will reduce the star rating of the animal. To be safe, look at their info with your binoculars to find out what gun will get you the perfect hide. For small animals like rabbits, squirrels and raccoons you should use the Varmant Rifle because it has a low caliber bullet. You can also make small game arrows, but you need a crafting recipe for that. For medium animals like deer and wolves you can use your bow or Rolling Block Rifle as long as it is a head shot. For large animals like bears, buffalo and moose you need to use the Rolling Block Rifle. Sometimes I even use high velocity ammo just to be careful. For rabbits especially, make sure it is a head shot and not an ear shot. I’ve cost myself hides by hitting them in the ear by mistake.
