Anvils are used to make nails, simple iron parts and other important metal ingredients that you will need as you progress through the game. While simple enough, the actual method to building the anvil and making nails is somewhat tucked away if you don’t know where to look.
You need to unlock Smithing. To do this you need to head to the village and speak with the innkeeper to get the quest to aid the Blacksmith. Once you have helped kill the Slimes for the Blacksmith, you will earn enough reputation with him to unlock a new conversation choice.
Speak with him and ask where to find metals. This unlocks the Smithing tree and with it, advances that you can unlock. One of which is the ability to craft an anvil. You need Wooden Billet and Simple Iron Parts to make the Anvil. Wooden Billets are easily acquired through the chopping of trees and manipulating of large logs. The Simple Iron Parts need to be purchased from the Blacksmith in town.
