How To Play With Friends In Far Cry 5
Want to unlock multiplayer and play co-op with a friend? This How To Play With Friends In Far Cry 5 guide walkthrough will tell you everything you need to know to take the fight to the enemy with an extra pair of hands by your side.
Far Cry 5 has introduced an exciting co-op feature to the Far Cry franchise. Players can team up with friends and play through the entire story campaign together. There are some limitations however. Players must remain within a certain proximity of each other, although it’s quite a large area. The primary player, the one who sends the invitation, is also the only player that actually progresses through the story. This means when the invited player returns to their own game, they will not have completed any of the content from the co-op experience. Inventory and player unlocks do carry over.

Before you are able to unlock co-op and play multiplayer you need to progress through the main story. It takes around 15-20 minutes, not including the initial cut-scene and introductory mission, to reach the required point. You need to clear Dutch’s Region, the island you start on, by completing all of the objectives. This includes an introduction to the Guns for Hire mechanics, an assault on an outpost, clearing a radio tower and freeing a couple of hostages.
Once this is unlocked you will see a tutorial prompt in the lower left of your screen stating that multiplayer is now available. This is How To Play With Friends In Far Cry 5. Open up the in-game menu and navigate to the multiplayer section. This is where you can invite your friend to play Far Cry 5.
When you start the game after this point, you also have the option to make your game private or public. Public games can have friends join at any time.
