How To Surf In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl

Surf is one of those moves you won’t get until later in the game. You need to progress until you can get past the Psyduck on Route 210. We have a guide for that here. Cynthia will then give you an item and ask you to go up Celestic Town to drop it off.

Head up to Celestic Town and there will be a team Galactic Grunt in front of the cave in that town. Beat him down and then enter the ruins there. Go through and the woman from outside will eventually come in and hand you some TMs. This will be the ability to Surf, which you don’t need to teach your Pokemon. In order to use Surf you will have to go near some water and press A. If you can Surf then the option will pop up for you to go into the water.

You can use this to access some hidden islands and areas.
