Before you’re able to have your Pokemon follow you, you need to reach Hearthome City. This is shortly after you get your second Gym Badge and have unlocked the bike. Continue following the story and before long, you will arrive in Hearthome City. Once here you will want to explore Amity Square Gate. This is a special area where trainers can take their Pokemon out for a walk. Head into Amity Square Gate and choose a Pokemon to walk around with. After you walk around leave.
