Prey Optional Side Quests Guide

Prey Optional Side Quests Guide
The huge environment of Talos 1 is home to tons of hidden rewards and experiences. Whether it’s special items in locked safes or rewarding side content. This Prey Optional Side Quests Guide will walk you through all of the optional side quest objectives we’ve discovered so far including information on starting the objectives, where to go, what to do and what you get in return.

The vast majority of the optional content in Prey is quite simple to complete. Although the initial discovery of a mission may be hidden away somewhere, the following elements of the side content can be completed following simple objective markers. Whenever you’re trying to complete an optional side quest make sure it is highlighted on the objectives menu of the pause screen so your next objective is displayed in your HUD.

Prey Optional Side Quests Guide – Talos 1 Lobby

[line style=’solid’ top=’10’ bottom=’10’ width=’100%’ height=’1′ color=’blue’] [accordion initial=’1′] [accordion_item title=’The Corpse Vanishes’] You can start this optional side quest objective inside the Simulation Laboratory. Next to the large whiteboard with the words “Remote Manipulation” written in red. Check the nearby computer and read the email titled “Urgent”. You’re tasked with finding Bellamy’s Corpse inside the Trauma Center. To get into the Trauma Center progress through to the Talos 1 lobby. On the bottom floor there’s a keycard. Check near the entrance to the Shuttle Bay, there’s also a turret nearby. The Keycard can be found on the nearby desk.

Once inside the Trauma Center interact with the Security Station at the front desk to learn tat Sylvain Bellamy has been taken to Psychotronics. You can’t get to Psychotronics until later in the story. Once you’re able to enter progress through until you reach the morgue. Search all the bodies and you’ll receive Sylvain Bellamy’s Cabin keycard. From there, progress further into the game until you reach the Crew Quarters. Check the cabin there. That completes this mission.

[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Everything You Know Is About To Change’] This optional side quest begins automatically as you progress through the game. Shortly after finding the Gloo Gun January tells you about a nearby Neuromod. Pick up the Neuromod to complete this objective and finish the quest.
[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Stolen Neuromods’] This one can be found inside the Holding Room that is in the Security Station area of the Talos 1 Lobby. To get into the Security Station you need to climb the yellow metal pipes that can be found outside the door entrance to the Security Station. Once inside use the code 1129 to unlock the Holding Room, inspect the paper on the desk to begin this mission. Simply head up to Yuri’s office and search under the desk for a set of 4 Neuromods.
[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Do No Harm’] Head to the Trauma Center. Once inside the Trauma Center enter the office on the left as you arrive, Mathias Kohl’s Office. There’s a computer inside, click the option to start a new behavioral test. Answer the questions in the following order: A, C, B, A, C. After you complete the test check the wall opposite and a picture would have moved revealing a safe. To finish this optional objective you have to get into Hendrik DeVries Office in the Trauma Center. Although you cannot do this until much later.

Progress through the story until you reach the Arboretum. Whilst exploring you will get the optional quest, Lift Interference. Follow the objective marker for that quest and it will take you to the top of the lifts. There’s a Technopath enemy there. Search the room for DeVrie’s corpse and his keycard.

[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Who Is December’] This mission becomes available as soon as you enter the Psychotronics Staff Only area using the General Access Key. I’m not sure if this mission is bugged but I never actually found Alex’s Escape Pod Key. I progressed through the main story until I reached the Arboretum. I fixed the lift and returned to Talos 1 Lobby and then went to Neuromod Division. When I entered a Nightmare Typhon was there. I killed it and saw December’s body nearby (he’s a robot Operator). On the body was a Mysterious Note, with a code 8192. It’s a code for the safe in Alex’s Office.

Head back to the Arboretum and go to Alex Yu’s Office to open the safe. Pick up Alex Yu’s Suite keycard. Proceed through the game until you reach the Crew Quarters. You’ll need to find the Grav Shift code to reach the Executive Suites. The Grav Shaft code can be found in the Crew Quarters area. It’s on the second floor, inside the same room with the Recycle machine. The code is 4983. Head up to Alex Yu’s room. On the bedside table is a large globe. Move that to discover a keycard underneath

You can now return to the Arboretum if you wish and use the escape pod. I couldn’t figure out how to get up there properly so I climbed onto the structures on the roof and then ran along the long metal beams to the shuttle. If you use the shuttle, a very interesting story segment happens but you die afterwards. Best to save before you attempt this.
[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Mikhailas Father’] This quest isn’t available until later in the game. You also have to complete the quest to save Mikhaila and have her return to your office. Once there speak with her after Dahl makes his presence known. She will ask you to go to Deep Storage to find records on the Volunteer Archive Terminal.

When you arrive at the Terminal the Dr gets in touch and warns you about the data. Once you choose to do what you will with the data, the mission is over. Check out our guide on whether to delete the data or transfer the data for more information.

Your choice does influence the ending, but only in a small way.

Prey Optional Side Quests Guide – Hardware Labs

[line style=’solid’ top=’10’ bottom=’10’ width=’100%’ height=’1′ color=’blue’] [accordion_item title=’Zero G Propulsion System’] To begin this mission you must enter the Beams & Waves Lab inside the Hardware Labs area, it’s on the second level of the Atrium. Once you enter January tells you that you will need to upgrade your suit. You can find it in the Machine Shop in the North West corner. You have to jump up to the 2nd level to reach it. After you pick it up, you need to glide to the nearby platform to complete the quest.

[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Breach Access’] During the main story you’re tasked with going on a spacewalk to find a Keycard. During the spacewalk there’s a Breach that you can repair in the room, it’s directly next to Dr Calvino. Simply repair the terminal, you need Repair 1 and some Spare Parts, and that completes the mission.
[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’The Blackbox Project’] The Blackbox Project
The Blackbox Project is available as a side mission within the Hardware Labs. After you complete Breach Access, head into the Beams & Waves Lab and interact with the terminal to find this optional mission. This one can be a massive pain. Josh Dalton is in the G.U.T.S. Go to a Security Station and check the Hardware Labs Staff for Josh Dalton, then head into the G.U.T.S. It’s relatively easy to get in a rough vicinity off him, about 25-30m. He’s actually behind some huge pipes so when you’re close but can’t reach him, go under the huge pipe nearby to reach him.

After that head to Hardware Labs to the Black Lab, enter and grab the file from the computer.

Prey Optional Side Quests Guide – Psychotronics

[line style=’solid’ top=’10’ bottom=’10’ width=’100%’ height=’1′ color=’blue’] [accordion_item title=’The Psychotronics Prisoner’] The Psychotronics Prisoner
This side mission is available on the Psychotronics map. You find a trapped human inside the Material Extraction area. You can choose to either let him live in exchange for the code to the armory, or extract exotic materials from him. The choice is yours, but the code to the Armory is 8714.

[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Whistleblower’] On level 3 of the Psychotronics area you will find two labs, a medical bay and Behavioral Biometrics. Head to Labs A and one of the rooms is the office of Annalise Gallegos. Search her body and you will get a Transcribe. Listen to both to begin this mission. You’re tasked with searching Dr. Gallego’s habitation pod in Crew Quarters.

When you arrive at Crew Quarters use the Security Terminal and listen to the Surveillance Reports. This will complete an objective. Then head to the end of Crew Quarters B to the habitation pods. You’ll find another Transcript here on a body. The next objective isn’t available until you reach the Cargo Bay area.

Once you reach the Cargo Bay B area proceed into the next room, the G.U.T.S Cargo area. The crate marked 3232 is inside. Pick up the thumb drive off the body and you complete this mission.

Prey Optional Side Quests Guide – Arboretum

[line style=’solid’ top=’10’ bottom=’10’ width=’100%’ height=’1′ color=’blue’] [accordion_item title=’Disgruntled Employee’] This optional side mission is available once you enter the Arboretum from the G.U.T.S tunnels. There’s a corpse in the room with the Recycle machine. Inspect the nearby Transcribe and listen to it to begin this mission. Keep progressing through the main story until you reach the Deep Storage area. Once inside follow the objective marker to the Kiosk. You will need to put in a tracking number for the bracelet. Check your objective screen for more information. For me it was 1129. You will then learn that Grant is outside Talos 1.

The only way to complete this mission is to visit a Security Terminal. Search for Crew, check Cargo Bay and highlight Grant Lockwood. Then take an airlock outside and head towards the objective marker.
[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Copy Protection’] This mission is likely available at any Fabrication Station, I just happened to be using the one in the Arboretum. After crafting a certain number of Neuromod’s, the Fabricator limits the license. You are unable to craft more without resetting the license. You need to travel to Halden Graves’ office in the Neuromod Division.

When you get to the Neuromod Division check the location above a body. Loot his keycard and then follow the objective marker to his office. Use his PC Utilities and Renew your license.

[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Lift Interference’] This mission is given to you by January as you explore the Arboretum. He asks you to clear whatever is blocking the elevator. Follow the objective marker to the elevator. Enter the area that leads to Talos 1 Lobby. You have to fight a new kind of enemy. Decently upgraded shotgun with shots to the eye type object on the Technopath takes it down quick enough.

[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Save Rani’] This mission becomes available when you read the note that sits in front of the entrance to the giant Greenhouse. The only successful way I found to do this was to hack the greenhouse door and open it. Head inside and use Mindjack to free all 3 of the humans inside from the mind control. Then quickly use an upgraded Q-Beam to take down the enemy inside, otherwise he kills all the humans and you fail the mission.
[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Talos Smuggling Ring’] Just outside the Arboretum main elevator entrance, in the hallway with the turrets, is a body. There’s a Transcript on the body. Listening to it unlocks this mission. The mission involves discovering hidden caches on Talos 1. The vast majority of them are in the lobby. They are fire alarms on the wall, they have a red light above them if they are a cache. Hit it with your Wrench 3 times and it opens. I had already found all buy one by the time I actually got the quest.

[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Mixed Signals’] I received this mission after killing the Nightmare two-three times. It’s a random spawn so it may not be in the Arboretum for you. The mission is to repair a satellite. You need to go to the Hardware Labs. Head to the Machine Shop in the Hardware Labs. Head to the far West side of the room. There is a Moon Door terminal that needs repairing. Repair that and a large crane will take the satellite out of the container so you can grab the Communication Device.

Head back out to space, track down the satellite and attach the device. You can now either summon or distract the Nightmare using Audio Logs option in the Data menu.

[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Gardening Tips’] On the Arboretum map head to the Looking Glass Station. It’s on the West side of Level 3. Once there smash the glass and walk to the back of the room. Climb up using your Gloo Gun and search the body at the top for Growth Formula. Go to a Fabrication Station and create the Growth Formula. Go back to the Arboretum and use the sprinkling system. You have to drag the Growth Formula into the top slot and then activate the sprinklers with the button. You then have to wait 10 minutes for the growth cycle to complete. Harvest the fruit to complete the mission.

[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Ghosting Dahl’] You get this mission after your upload of the Coral Scans is interrupted in the main story. Head to Deep Storage, to Level 2 and the Command Center. Interact with the computer there and put in the bracelet code 0913. That completes the mission
[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Incapacitate Dahl’] You get this mission after your upload of the Coral Scans is interrupted in the main story. Return to your office and speak with Dayo Igwe. Continue through until Dahl Ultimatum – Cargo Bay mission, head to Life Support and use the Air Filtration Control panel. This knocks Dahl out and doesn’t kill him. Following that head to meet Dr Igwe in the Neuromod Division.

If you kill or incapacitate Dahl – your choice does influence the ending, but only in a small way.
[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Help Luther Glass’] You get this mission after your upload of the Coral Scans is interrupted in the main story. It pops up via an audio message shortly after the event. Head back to Talos 1 Lobby and go to the Trauma Center. It’s an ambush, clear out the enemies to complete the mission.
[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Save Alex’] This side quest is directly tied to the main story. When you meet Alex to get the Arming Key, the situation gets bad. After the cut-scene you need to grab Alex’s floating body quickly and then drag him to the safe room behind you. Close the door to complete the mission.

Prey Optional Side Quests Guide – Crew Quarters

[line style=’solid’ top=’10’ bottom=’10’ width=’100%’ height=’1′ color=’blue’] [accordion_item title=’The Cooks Request’] This mission becomes available as soon as you enter the Crew Quarters for the first time. Head to the Cafeteria. You need to kill the Telepath and either free the mind controlled humans or kill them. Speak to the Cook to get the keycard and then head to the cabin. Pick up the medal from the bed side table and return it to the cook. When you get into the Kitchen he will need you to repair a regulator. Repair it on the floor, pick it up and then install it near his feet.

[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Treasure Hunt’] You get this mission after interacting with the computer in the gym of the Fitness Center. It’s upstairs, near the pool. Check the email to start this quest. You have to find 4 different map fragments to complete the mission. There’s a lot to this mission so check out our full Prey Treasure Hunt guide.

[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Danielle Sho’] You get this mission during The Cook’s Request. Once he traps you inside the freezer progress through and you’ll find Danielle’s partner, dead. Next to her is a Transcript. Listen to that to get this quest. Head over to the window in the pool room for the next stage. You have to kill the imposter cook. Proceed through the game until you lift the lockdown and you can fully explore the station again.

Return to your office to check your emails. Danielle Sho will send you an email with his location. Volunteer Quarters in Neuromod Division. Head to the Volunteer Quarters and interact with the Security Station. You need to locate V-010655-37. It will tell you he is on the bridge so take the main elevator up to Arboretum and follow the objective marker. Once on Talos 1 Bridge go down to the escape pods. Make sure you’re fully healed.

If you complete this chain of events, it does influence the ending in Prey.
[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’The Lovers Gift’] You pick this mission up after listening to a Transcribe. Head to Crew Cabins B. Walk your way to the end in the Crew Habitation Pods. The middle set of pods look for Lawrence Baker’s pod, the name plate is not lit up like the others. Interact with the Transcribe on his bunk to begin this mission.

Head back to the Arboretum and go to the location marked above. There’s a huge tree with some initials carved onto it. At the base of the tree near some rocks, there’s a keycard for Storage Room A2.

Prey Optional Side Quests Guide – Talos 1 Exterior

[line style=’solid’ top=’10’ bottom=’10’ width=’100%’ height=’1′ color=’blue’] [accordion_item title=’Dr Igwe’] When you enter Talos 1 and you’re tasked with reaching the Cargo Bay you will get intercepted by a message from Dr Igwe. He is stuck inside a container. You need to find the number on the shipping container and then enter the Cargo Bay to use the Docking Terminal to grab his crate. It may be different for everyone but for me it was 2312. You should see his location on your heads up display. Once he’s docked head inside and speak with him.

Prey Optional Side Quests Guide – Life Support

[line style=’solid’ top=’10’ bottom=’10’ width=’100%’ height=’1′ color=’blue’] [accordion_item title=’Missing Engineer’] You can unlock this mission inside the Security Office in Life Support using the computer. Head to Power Plant. Proceed through the area until you reach Level B3, the reactor. When you enter you’ll see a sign pointing right for the Maintenance Lift. Follow the path all the way round and use Remote Manipulation to open the metal fence door at the end. Jump across to the hatch and you’ll find Jean Faure inside. Collect the keycard.

Return to Air Filtration control on Level 2 of Life Support. Enter the Atmosphere Control Room and the mission is complete.
[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Psychic Water’] In the Water Treatment Facility near the computer that turns on the power there’s a note on the table. Read it to start this mission. Head to the Security Station on Level 1. Directly opposite the door is a service hatch. Go inside, take a left and you will see Tobias’ body on the floor. May need your torch to see this one. Head down into the Water Treatment Facility and put the item in to complete the mission.

[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Drunk Tank’] Not entirely sure where you start this mission but to complete it simply head into the Ail Filtration Control on Level 2 of Life Support and check near the computers for a Transcript.

Prey Optional Side Quests Guide – Power Plant

[line style=’solid’ top=’10’ bottom=’10’ width=’100%’ height=’1′ color=’blue’] [accordion_item title=’Assist Mikhaila Ilyushin’] Head to Level B2 in the Power Plant and enter the Coolant Chamber room. Speak with Mikhaila Ilyushin there to start this mission. You need to find her medicine in her office in Talos 1 Exterior. But you can’t go there until you progress further in the story and lift the lockdown. It is a 2 hour timed mission.

Proceed with the story and lift the lockdown then return to Mikhaila Ilyushin. Use the nearby airlock to go outside and check the objective marker for her medicine. Drop in, pick it up and return to her on the ship. After a while she will head up to your office, meet her there. Mission complete.

Whether you save her or not does influence the end of the game, only slightly.

Prey Optional Side Quests Guide – Talos Bridge 1

[line style=’solid’ top=’10’ bottom=’10’ width=’100%’ height=’1′ color=’blue’] [accordion_item title=’Gustav Leitner’] It’s possible you will receive this mission in another location. You must have saved Dr Igwe and then spoken to him when he returns to your office. Sometime after that he will give you this mission. You must head to Crew Quarters and into Dr. Igwe’s room. Once inside open the menu, go to data and play the Leitner Music Sample in his quarters. This reveals the safe behind the picture. Grab the item inside. Take it back to the Dr to complete the mission.

[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Shuttle Advent’] Head up to the Captain’s Chambers on Talos Bridge 1 and listen to the Transcript next to the captains body. You have to choose whether to save the ship or blow it up.

Prey Optional Side Quests Guide – Shuttle Bay

[line style=’solid’ top=’10’ bottom=’10’ width=’100%’ height=’1′ color=’blue’] [accordion_item title=’Escape Attempt’] Head to the Escape Pods in the Shuttle Bay and you’ll get this mission. You need to head to Talos 1 Exterior on a space walk. Head outside and follow the objective marker. When you get there you need to shoot the red blocks to free the hatch. Return to the escape pods inside and activate the switch to release the pod. Collect your reward to complete the mission.
[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’The Golden Gun’] Head to the Escape Pods in the Shuttle Bay, search the body near the entrance for a Transcript. That unlocks this mission. Simply follow the objective marker to Crew Quarters to complete the mission and get the Golden Gun.
[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Derelict Shuttle’] Check out the Transcript near a body in the Pilot Lounge. Head outside and look for the shuttle. Search near the large rings, look for a spaceship with the Coral coming off it. Investigate the ship, find the Transcript. Mission complete.
[/accordion_item] [accordion_item title=’Dahl Ultimatum – Cargo Bay’] When you explore Dahl’s ship and get the next objective this mission will pop up. You need to turn on the life support to Cargo Bay within 15 minutes. Head to Life Support into the Oxygen Flow Control. Remove the one from Power Plant and place it in Cargo Bay. If you have Spare Parts on you there is a broken item on the floor you can repair to give oxygen to all 3 locations.
[/accordion_item] [/accordion]

Blaine Smith

Blaine Smith, or Smith as he prefers to be called as he doesn't have to repeat it four times before people get it, is one of the original founders of Gamers Heroes. Smith has been playing games for over 30 years, from Rex & 180 on ZX Spectrum to the latest releases on the ninth generation of consoles. RPG's are his go-to genre, with the likes of Final Fantasy, Legend of Legaia, and Elder Scrolls being among his favorites, but he'll play almost anything once (except Dark Souls). You can best reach him on Twitter

  1. Re: “Who is December,” you missed a pretty sizable plot thing.

    Spoilers ahead:

December contacts you as you are about to enter the psychotronics division. She is another Operator created by a past Morgan to help her escape from the station. Like January, she promises to help you; her voice sounds slightly corrupt, however. She tells you where a keycard to an escape shuttle is located (it is in the neuromod division, meaning you have to backtrack to find it).

Your new robobuddy then contacts you again. She says that it’s not safe to meet in your office, and offers to meet you in the foyer (she means the Neuromod Division foyer). When you get there, she begins to speak, but is cut off when January _kills her in cold blood_. January then explains, weakly, that December might have been defective, “or worse.”

At this point the quest continues in the way you have described.

  2. for the “save rani” sidequest you don’t need the level 4 hacking, just go to the rightmost path on the map and you’ll find notes next to a dead person sitting on a stool infront of a chess table, the password is in those notes, personally i took down the enemy fairly easily with a couple grenades which seemed to have broken the mind control and caused the humans to shoot at the enemy https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/eb355cde8fe107ef5c0ca724d3779324679e90c591e2adc0db1651a902714059.png

    1. For the Save Rani quest, you can lure the Telepath outside by Activating the Sprinklers on the computer console.

  3. With the Incapacitate Dhal mission. You can also just enter the room and zap him with the stun gun. That also works

  4. There’s a mission called “Where’s Kirk?” Which has you go to the life support area to find him, but is bugged for many people to where he just doesn’t exist. Hopefully the patch will come soon
