You unlock Horse Bonding as soon as you have access to your own personal horse, it’s near the start of the game just after one of the game first major choices. Once you have your own horse, you can increase its bond and further improve its abilities. It’s worth noting that horses can die and if you do not have the medical items to revive them, death is permanent.

There are many ways to increase your bond with your horse. As mentioned previously, feeding them high quality food is one of the fastest ways to increase the bond. You can also increase bond by interacting with your horse. Dismount and target your horse to interact with it. From here you can brush your horse, which also cleans them, and pet your horse. Both of these increase bond when done regularly so make sure to do it every 15-20 minutes.

Increasing your bond with your horse makes its abilities reach its maximum potential, and also unlocks new abilities.
