There are 8 pillars in the wall for this puzzle and you need to pull the right ones out. One pillar from each row will come out and starting from the left it is top, bottom, bottom, and then top again. This will open up the passage and you can take a short cut back to the meditation point.
You should still climb part way up the mountain outside of the crypt. A little ways up you will find a recruit. She is the gardener and will unlock more gardening abilities back at your base as well as more spots to garden. That is assuming you can find enough seeds to actually fill out most of the roof. Either way it is another NPC for your town.
