The Witcher Gwent Guide: Gwent Players, Card Rewards

As well as the rare and powerful Hero & Leader cards you can obtain in Gwent, there’s dozens of lesser powerful but equally important cards that you can collect on your travels. Every player that has the option to challenge to a game of Gwent has a single card they can award to the player, they also offer specific items for further victories. So for your first win you’re guaranteed a card, additional wins usually give related items such as crafting materials from a Blacksmith or Alchemy materials from a herbalist. Below is a list of Gwent players throughout The Witcher 3 including the card they may offer and the faction it belongs to.

  1. The Eredin – Bringer Of Death card is actually from playing the Soothsayer in the Gwent:Velen Players quest.

    1. I got it after beating Haddy in the (Gwent:Velen Players contract). When I looked after beating the soothsayer it wasn’t there. Had to beat the whole contract to get it.

  2. The “Foltest – Lord Commander of the North” card is still available for purchase after leaving White Orchard, though it is now sold by the merchant near the inn (the man you rescue from the Griffin in the prologue) instead of the innkeeper.

    1. Help!! lol somehow the merchant still doesn’t have the Lord Commander card. The old lady is gone from the inn as well. I’ve done the download. Am I doing something wrong?

  3. Blacksmith in Blackbough – gave me this “Philipa Eilhart – Ranged power 10, Northern Realms, hero card”

(being curious, as it was not what was listed in your guide, I reloaded save and got)

“Assire Var Anahid – Ranged power 6, Nilfgaardian Empire” – instead of ^

    —-
Trader in Blackbough – “Ghoul – melee power 1, Monster”
    —-
Trader in Crows Perch – “Dol Blathana Scout – (agile) ranged / melee power 6, Scoia’tael”

The reload save test aside, its interesting that all the cards were different from the ones you had listed (not cracking on your guide, its actually the best one available as it groups cards by location, every other guide just lists them all and not even in alphabetical order).

I believe some are set – major encounters for instance, the bloody baron, or quest related players (haven’t gotten much farther so I can’t say for sure), while others remain random > traders / merchant / smiths (or any other random gwent players) – I’m kinda curious if the random players have a set pool they can each only give you one card from, as in it might be good to replay (reloading saves of course) them multiple times to get the best result.

It could also be possible the random players have a pool that depletes so you still eventually get all the cards. Have a feeling this is more likely.

Just wanted to add to your great guide and I’m glad I found it, Thanks!!!

  4. Foltest – Lord Commander Of The North : After the Innkeeper disappeared, the card is now (1.04) available to purchase from the Merchant right between the Inn and the Bridge (Waypoint). I think it is the merchant I rescued from a cage before.

    1. Hi. somehow the merchant still doesn’t have the Lord Commander card. The old lady is gone from the inn as well. I’ve done the download. Am I doing something wrong?

  5. Just an update (thoroughly tested)

All traders / smiths / merchants / any NON-quest related gwent players, are 100% random, they reward 1 card upon beating them the first time, any subsequent wins will only give random crafting materials (usually low quality).

Quest related gwent players always reward specific cards (velen players / innkeepers / big city questlines etc).

The NON-quest players hand out their card (randomly) from a set pool and you will eventually collect them all, you can reload saves to try for a better card or one from a deck your trying to flesh out, but it’s still just random luck.

The locations in this guide are spot on, however most of the cards will be random just the same.

One thing worth REALLY mentioning is, there is NO and I repeat NO trader / merchant in “Midscope” – all the guides or anything you’ve read is wrong, the merchant that sells those cards is located in “Lindenvale” – which is directly east of Crows Perch (first large city, hard to miss, he also only shows up during the day).

P.S. the “The Eredin – Bringer Of Death card” is just a reward for completing the whole “velen players” questline, so whoever you play last ends up giving it to you.

    1. Greatly appreciate the time you took to help us improve the guide 😀 By the time I’d realized the cards were random I’d added so much information it seemed counter-productive to just remove it all and replace it with “Random Card” etc.

If the Gwent cards had 100% of my time I would have had more extensive information available but Witcher 3 is friggin huge so often I was side tracked updating other content. Will be diving back into things soon and hope to continue to update the Gwent Cards.

Thanks again for all the help 😀
