Throughout the story and during certain parts of the game your Fortress can come under attack. This is usually when you reach an important part of the campaign. It’s worth noting that some of these are near impossible to win as losing a Fortress is part of a quest, so remember never to leave your best Legendary Followers guarding a Fortress you can simply take back.
How To Upgrade Your Fortress Defenses In Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War
Upgrading your Fortress offers many benefits. You can strengthen your walls, add elemental damage types to your siege weapons, giving your troops immunity to certain effects. They really can help turn the tide of battle. The process is simple but it’s likely not what you would expect. You don’t upgrade the Fortress itself and they are not permanent upgrades, instead they function much in the same way the do during attacks on Fortresses.Go to your Fortress, you need to be in the region with the Fortress you want to upgrade. So if you want to upgrade your Seregost Fortress, you need to be in Seregost. Go to your Army screen and press the R1 or RB button. This will take you to Siege Upgrades and Fortress Upgrades menu. From here you can perform the following upgrades:
- Upgrade Fortress Walls
- Upgrade Fortress Gates
- Upgrade Fortress Soldiers
- Upgrade Fortress Siege Beasts
- Add Drakes / Graugs
- Improve Archers
- Mines
You can only upgrade defenses if you have a defender in that slot. You can purchase additional slots so you can have extra defenders by clicking on the white lock.
