The Workbench is vital if you want to build and expand in Valheim. This Valheim How To Upgrade The Workbench guide will tell you how to go about completing the important process of upgrading your Workbench to unlock rare and valuable recipes that will help you progress in the game.

There are initially two main aspects to building. Building using your hammer and building using the Workbench. If you don’t have a basic understanding of how this works, check out our guide on how to build in Valheim. If you have a fair grip of the very basics, the next step is to build additional improvements to your Workbench. This will naturally increase the level of the Workbench, giving you access to rarer and more useful recipes.

Valheim How To Upgrade The Workbench

You need to equip your hammer and open the crafting menu with Mouse 2 (right click). You will see a recipe called Chopping Block. It costs 10 Wood and 10 Flint, and you must be within a few meters of your Workbench. Craft it and place it directly next to the Workbench. This is called a “Building Improvement”. Once you have constructed it and placed it down, it will automatically raise your Workbench to the next level, level 2. And that’s how you upgrade your Workbench in Valheim.

• Build a Workbench inside your house
• Equip your hammer and build the Chopping Block recipe
• You unlock the chopping block recipe after you first find Flint
• You will need 10 Wood and 10 Flint
• Place the Chopping Block next to your bench to upgrade it to level 2.

If you’re struggling on where to find more Flint, check the waters edge. Down by the side of rivers, streams, on the beach near the ocean, it’s quite common to find it near bodies of water. If you want to increase your Workbench further, kill a deer to unlock the Tanning Rack recipe.
