Special characters can become Companions in Wasteland 3. This Wasteland 3 Recruitment Guide will tell you everything you need to know about recruiting new characters to join your cause. Whether they add an extra gun to your ranks or help you maintain facilities at your home base, they are useful to have. There are different types of characters you can recruit.
Companions are unique characters that will join you in combat upon request. You can hire Rangers from your HQ to bolster your forces, and other characters join your cause to help with certain tasks and activities at the Ranger HQ or even teach you new Perks. Others will join and simply hang around.
When you first visit Colorado Springs you will see a bunch of prisoners about to be put to death. Speak with Emaline Pease nearby and she will tell you about her sons plight. Speak to her son, offer to free him, and then speak with the judge and offer to pay for his freedom. Austin Pease will then join you are your HQ.
Lucia Wesson is a character involved in the story at Colorado Springs. When you arrive there the main mission has you speak with the Sheriff. The Sheriff will inform you of Lucia’s missing family. Offer to take her with you and she will become a companion.
When you finish aiding the Sheriff at Colorado Springs, she will introduce you to Hope Emerson and she will join. She is another character required for the Full House quest.
Irv is a clone of a famous scientist that will join you at your HQ if you complete the Don’t You Be My Neighbor side quest and then when speaking with Irv, tell him you believe his story and offer to have him work at the HQ. The side quest comes over the radio after you complete a few main missions at Colorado Springs.
Role: Creates clones that follow and fight alongside you like animals.
In the Bizarre, speak with Masato at his food stand. You can ask him to come with you but first he asks you find him a Raman Noodles recipe down in the Warrens. Complete the My Body Requires This side quest and he will join you at your base.
Role: Mans the mess hall and sells food and drugs.
Speak with Randy Gett in the Bizarre and he will give you the Thicker Than Water optional quest. Complete the quest and Randy will join you at your HQ. He will be in your garage working on the front of your vehicle. Speak with him and you will unlock the Vehicular Combat perk, which increases damage to vehicles by 5%.
This is the Merchant you first meet when you arrive at the Bizarre. After you complete all the primary missions here, speak with him again and ask him to join you. He stands inside your base, at the bottom of the stairs to the main computer room, and sells outfits and other goodies.
Complete the Lords of War Secondary Mission in Colorado Springs. After you complete most of Colorado Springs and you’ve completed the Bizarre, you will get a radio message from Dead Red asking you to break someone out of prison. Once you free Ironclad, he will join you.
After you complete the quest to take over the Bizarre, you get a radio message from HQ saying Quarex is stuck in the Warrens. Complete his secondary mission and he will offer to join you at your HQ.
Role: Speak with him in the HQ museum for the Game Master perk. It provides +2% critical chance.
In the machine Commune. When you speak to the central computer, if it decides it likes you, you can speak with Party Pal on the way out and he will join you.
Jodie Bell is the first character you meet in the game that isn’t an enemy, after the tutorial introduction. If she survives that encounter, she will join your party later. Once you have built up the Ranger HQ and she is no longer injured, speak with her to join your team.
Inside the Little Hell area in Aspen. There’s a room here with two hostages standing on platforms. You need 8 Mechanics, use it on the nearby device on the wall to free both the hostages. They will return to Colorado.
Somewhere in Aspen. If you rescue him he gives you an accessory when he gets back to HQ. I didn’t realize he was a recruit so cannot remember his exact location.
You meet Vic Buchanan in Little Hell in Aspen. The conversation has several outcomes but I do not believe they will allow you to recruit him again so before engaging in this conversation. Tell him you will arrest him and then he will offer to join, he will join your team.
After you arrive in Little Hell in Aspen, there’s a lab inside the Little Hell building. Speak with the The Gift there and you can convince her to let Pizepi leave. Complete the area and speak with Pizepi at the end and she’ll join you.
