There is a Messenger Crab on Gold Clay island, to the East. Messenger Crabs are small crabs that run around carrying messenger bottles on their backs. When approached, you can speak with them to read a message from the developers or Kickstarter backers. After you read the message, you are given an item as a reward. There’s a huge variety of items and some of them are very valuable, so make sure you speak with the crabs whenever you encounter one.
On Gold Clay island there is a crab near a couple of boxes, not far from the Melon patch you can harvest. The Crab talks about starting a brand new journey, and that it may be hard. If the crab doesn’t give you the Canvas, it’s a random reward. I will try to update this guide with more information when I find other sources of Canvas.
