In Ys 8 you will be building up a village and doing quests to help this process go quicker. Some of the quests are simple while others are difficult to complete. Check out this Ys 8 Lacrimosa Of Dana Side Quest Guide to complete them all.
The majority of side quests come from the Bulletin Board that you can find at your base. Make sure to check the Bulletin Board often as it usually triggers the start of a quest, requiring you to speak with the individual after reading the quest on the Bulletin Board.
This is one of the tutorial quests basically, you get it at the start of chapter 2. The captain wants you to find him three pieces of Sturdy Wood so he can build beds. You can find the Sturdy Wood in tree trunks that you can break on the map.
The second tutorial quest that you get at the start of chapter 2. Dogi will ask you to come speak to him so he can ask you to collect stuff for him.
His first request is 12 Murky Mucus and 8 Light bones. You can find the Light Bones on the Wolfs you kill on The Nameless Shore. Murky Mucus is found in the same area as the Wolves on the spinning sea urchin enemy things named Maltu. Both items can be found on various monsters but those ones are the easiest to kill.
This quest opens up after you do the Create beds quest. Talk to Laxia and she will ask for 2 pieces of soft fiber. They drop from the large starfish enemies on the beach, the Veusdara. When you complete the quest Laxia will get 100 bonus HP and Adol will get 50 Bonus HP.
This is one of the quests that appears after you get the blacksmith back to town. Dogi wants you to bring him 3 Lateka Resin. It is a rare item that can be found on tree trunks that you break on the map.
Another one that appears after the blacksmith is recruited. You need to bring the tailor 3 Thick Hides, which you might already have.
If not you can likely trade for them in the storage area. Your reward is a gold cape
A third quest that comes in after you recruit the blacksmith. the captain wants you to take out some Hyuppers at the Nameless Shore for him. Go the area on the map that is marked and kill the enemies there. They are a pretty tough bunch so be ready for a fight.
This quest becomes available after you save Dina in Chapter 2. Go to the Bulletin Board and then speak with Dina. Speak with Dina and she gives you a treasure map and tells you to search the Basin area. Head to the location marked on the map, you’ll see a large set of rock pillar like objects. Search the foot of the pillars and then the grey slab on the floor nearby.
This quest becomes available after you save Dina in Chapter 2. Go to the Bulletin board and then speak with Sir Carlan. He tells you to deliver Meuniere. You can find the Meuniere very early in the Schlamm forest near a spot where you need to destroy an insect nest. We have a guide here if you are having trouble.
This quest becomes available after you save Dina in Chapter 2. Go to the Bulletin Board and then speak with Dogi. You need to go to the camp on Nameless Shores and then do the Night Search. Head through to the other end of the area, following the large monkey you see in the dialogue scenes.
This quest opens up at the start of chapter 3. When you are traveling through the Gendarme dungeon you can find the tree shortly past the shack. Grab the tree and when you return to the village you will complete the quest.
This quest opens up at chapter 3. You need a Sparkling Mucus and a Sparkling Leaf to complete the quest. I got both of mine from a story related interception mission when I could finally take out dinos.
Another quest that opens up at chapter 3. Another hunting quest where you just go to the point on the map and kill the enemy. It is only one enemy this time but is big and sort of like a mini boss so be ready for a fight.
This quest starts during chapter 4. Go speak with Reja at the farm and he will say he found a second pig but lost it. Go down to the docks and you can find it hiding behind the first section of the dock. The second time he is on the watch tower on the middle section. The third time he goes into the cave and is on the shelf in the women’s area of the cave, then the corner shelf near your hammock and finally on the shelf across from the tailoring area.
This is a quest that opens during chapter 4. You need to get a Ripe Mangoh and then speak with Ricotta so she marks the location of her master on the map. You need 14 people to clear the way for you to get to the master as well. When you give the master the fruit, you will face him one on one with Ricotta so be ready.
This is a quest that opens during chapter 4. Miralda will want 3 pieces of Primitive Meat that you can only get from the larger dinosaurs. I killed some of the Trikes near the Pangaean Plains campsite to get the meat. These are tough enemies but if you warp back to town each time to restore your special attack meter it will help you out.
This quest comes up after the first invasion during chapter 5. You just have to collect 20 Sturdy Wood, 20 Thick Hide and 10 Iron ore which you likely have at this point. If you don’t, you will have to go out and bust up some rocks and trees in lower level areas.
Another one that opens during Chapter 5. This time you are hunting for bright plants at night on the side of Gendarme. They are the plant icons on the map as you are going through and once you have enough you need to make your way up to the cabin to wait out the night.
Another one that opens during Chapter 5. Kuina will ask you to get her 3 Dragon Scales which you might already have. If you don’t you can find them off the larger tyrannosaurus looking dinosaurs in Gendarme and in other locations.
Another one that opens during Chapter 5. Hummel wants you to bring the Egg he found back to the next so it can hatch. This is in a mini-dungeon where it is more about platforming than anything else. It is marked on the map and you need 18 people to clear the way to access it. Inside the dungeon, you will need to climb the vines and jump to gain access to the nest. Use Adol’s Aerial Spin to keep yourself in air longer so you can reach the vines easier.
Another one that opens during Chapter 5, after a few parts of the story. This one is no joke, you have to be a master fisher to catch this beat. I had to basically use my thumb and index finger and mash like it was Mario Party to reel this one in. This is the hardest catch I’ve had in the game, return to base when you catch it.
Another one that opens during Chapter 5, after a few parts of the story. You need to go back into the past with Dana to complete this one. In the city, in the past, you will want to find the Poet Sepa and talk to him. After that take the stairs down on the left of the temple and you will find a woman you need to speak to. Next, you are looking for Guard Rastell who is near the bridge to the palace on the map. When that is done, return to the present and warp down to the Great Tree Temple and head back to the village to complete the quest.
