The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild features many Shrines players can find and explore but there are quite a few that do not appear on the map or via the Sheikah Sensor. This Zelda Breath Of The Wild Shrine Quests Guide tells you where to find specific hidden Shrine Quests that open a new Shrine once you have solved the riddle.
Zelda Breath Of The Wild Shrine Quests
There are multiple Shrine Quests scattered throughout Hyrule. Each of which involves speaking with a character in the game world to begin a Shrine Quest. From there you typically have a puzzle to solved before revealing the location of a new Shrine. This list below of Zelda Breath Of The Wild Shrine Quests will tell you where to find the Shrine Quests we’ve discovered so far, as well as how to solve the riddle related to each Shrine Quest.
You can find a bird named Kass at the location marked above at Horon Lagoon, playing a musical instruments. He will tell you about a song from this region that includes a riddle. You must solve the riddle to reveal the hidden location of the Shai Yota Shrine.
Riddle
“He breaks the rocks that serve to bind. Above the tempestuous bay. On wings of cloth and wood entwined. He lands on the altar to open the way”
Solution
Look slightly South East behind Kass and you’ll see the large stone formation. There are three stone archways that lead into an area of crabs. The back archway has rocks on the underside of the top, throw a bomb at them to destroy them. On the South East side of the rocky formation there’s a set of large boulders you can destroy just sitting atop the water, take them out. Again on the West side this time, another group of rocks you can destroy. This creates wind going through the central rock formation.
Little unclear on the next bit as I tried it 5-6 times, worked randomly at the end. I went from the outside the rock formation on the South West side, use the wind to take me through the central formation and then out towards the shrine. You need to land in the shrine with your glide, you cannot drop with B or drop and engage glider again. Has to be landed in the middle whilst holding the glider.
The Secret of the Cedars Shrine Quest can be found in Hateno Village, speak with Clavia. She is slightly North East of the Shrine in town, standing at the end of a dock.
Riddle
When the three summit trees become one turn your back to them and head towards the sea. A trial encased in stone awaits you there.
Solution
Look at your map. If you zoom in closer you can see the trees pictured on the map, follow them in a direct line to the East and you’ll see a rocky outcrop on the map. That’s where the Shrine is. You need to blow up some rocks for it to appear. It’s the Tahno O’ah Shrine.
You can find Kass again playing an accordion at the location marked above. He gives you a riddle to solve.
Riddle
A beast that wears a crown of bone. Prancing through the lush green. Mount the beast upon its thrown. For only then the Shrine can be seen.
Solution
You need to search the nearby area for a Stag (deer with antlers) and try to mount it. They don’t take much stamina to mount but it can be frustrating chasing them down, bring stealth food if you can. Mount the Stag and bring it to the platform near Kass, this opens the Mezza Lo Shrine.
The Ceremonial Song Shrine Quest can be found within Zora’s Domain. Speak with the two children near the statue in the middle of town. Ask to hear the Champion’s Song and you will be given another riddle to solve in order to reveal a hidden Shrine.
Riddle
A gift from the sky: a scale of light. Splits the feet of a Veiled Falls sight. Your trial awaits, it’s glowing bright.
Solution
Veiled Falls is a waterfall on the West side of Zora’s Domain. At the bottom of the waterfall, in the water below, is a Shrine platform. You need to swim up the waterfall (using the Zora Armor) and then jump down using the glider. You need to wait until you’re about 5ft above the platform and then use your attack (Y button) with the Lightscale Trident equipped.
This will make the Dagah Keek Shrine appear nearby.
You can get this Shrine Quest by talking to Loone on Puffer Beach. It’s far to the South of Hyrule. She will ask you to get a picture of three different guardians. This includes small Guardians, flying Guardians and Guardians that walk around.
There are multiple places to find each Guardian, below is a screenshot of locations for each (based on the ones I found)
Small Guardians
Guardian Scouts. These ones are often found in combat trial shrines. The easiest one can be found in Soh Kofi Shrine. If you’ve already done that one, check South and South West of Hateno village. There is one on the very edge of the big cliff overlooking the sea and another in the water below.
Flying Guardians
Guardian Skywatchers. The only place I’ve found these is hovering around the top of Akkala Tower. North of Zora’s Domain
Guardians That Walk Around
Guardian Stalker. You can find one of these on the beach at the location marked above.
Once you return to the girl and show her the pictures you can then use the ball on the nearby platform to reveal the hidden Shrine, the Shoqa Tatone Shrine.
This Shrine Quest can be found within Foothill Stable. It’s North West of Zora’s Domain in the next territory across. You just need to go to the Shrine. Located within the picture. Complete it to complete the Shrine quest.
You can find this Shrine Quest on the far Eastern edge of Hyrule. It’s North East of Tarrey Town. You need to inspect a stone marking located near a small pool of water and one of the glowing mechanical orbs. As the clue suggests, you have to run the orb all the way into the center of the peninsula.
It’s not a difficult quest but it is quite long. Bring food that increases speed. You can avoid most of the enemies, just be sure to take out the mounted enemies when you see them. Part way round you may get attacked by 3 large skeletons. These can pick up the ball and throw it so be careful there. Obviously don’t hit the ball with bombs or anything. If it falls in the water you’re screwed. Unless you can use Stasis and either a bomb or the swim dash from the Zora set to move it.
This Shrine Quest is in the very far North East, on Lomei Labyrinth Island. I’ve not managed to get through it yet but you have to get through the Labyrinth to unlock the hidden Shrine.
The start of the Korok Village Trials, all of which are Shrine quests. Head out the South West of the Korok Village and you can see a Korok up on a ledge. Talk to him and he will give you a Trial to get through the forest. This one is pretty simple, use your magnet power up to find the iron balls inside tree, these are your guides. Run from each metal ball to the next until you get to a rusty shield up on a platform. Grab the shield and drop it inside the tree mouths with a sign in front of it. This will make a chest appear, use the magnet to put the chest on the raft and then use a leaf to blow it across the river to the next tree with a sign in front of it. Put the chest inside the mouth of the tree and the Shrine will appear.
This is another Korok Village Trial you can complete. It isn’t difficult it is just annoying and long. If you have the stealth gear you should use that for this quest. If you go out the North West exit of Korok Village you will find a Korok who has this quest. He will ask you to tail his buddy through the woods until he gets to the Shrine. Keep a respectable distance and don’t lose sight of him, he easily blends into the grass here. I never had him turn around as long as I didn’t get to close but I did have a wolf jump him once. When the wolf jumps him let him run away and then use your bow to take the wolf out, the Korok will come back and resume his path. When you get to the Shrine, wait for him to stop AND TALK TO HIM. I went into the Shrine and when I came back out he was gone and I had to do it over again.
This is the last Trial you have to do and it has the potential to be the most frustrating. You have to make it to a Shrine with Wooden gear and if it breaks you’re out. When Fire Bats attack, use your bow. Use a bobm to get through the boxes because Link lost his ability to climb all of a sudden. At the bog where the Deku Shrubs are shooting you from the water use your shield and press A at the right time to deflect their shots back. At the end use your Bow on the fire ChuChu if it isn’t going to break. If it is, let them jump at your into the bog and wait for the middle island to clear of fire. Run past them and take it slow on the logs, if you fall in you have to go back to the start and no one wants that. You can also use your freeze skill to skip over the logs if you want.
I never found the quest for this Shrine but you can find it South West of the Wasteland Tower in Gerudo Desert. It’s the large area with the huge statues. Come in from the Shrine and land on the North West statue. You’ll see a metal orb on one of the statues nearby. Drop it to the bottom. Now drop down, you need to put the appropriate ball in the appropriate hole. Starting on the West statue and working clockwise it is.
Single quotation mark ball
V ball
Circle with hole in middle ball
Double circle ball
Single line ball
Icon with horns ball
This Shrine Quest can be found in Kara Kara Bazaar. Speak with the guy standing atop one of the houses on a small platform during the day. He mentions a sandstorm and a hidden Shrine. The quest automatically completed for me so I assume it’s the Shrine to the North as I’d already done it.
You can find the Gut Check Challenge Shrine Quest here. This one is pretty simple, you have to climb up the cliffisde and collect 100 rupees within 3 minutes. Focus on the Blue and Red Rupees as you go up and you will get up there with plenty of time to spare.
You can find Kass playing his Accordion here and he will give you a Shrine quest. You will need a Scale from one of the Dragons before you go though, so go grab one. I got mine from the Dragon that flies above lake Hylia, just shoot it with a bow. When you have the scale, drop it in the Spring of Courage and the Shrine will open up for you.
You can get this after beating the dungeon in Gerudo Desert. Exit out the north entrance and you will find a guard who gives you the quest. All you have to do is follow the statues with swords, the direction they point. It will take your through the desert and through the sandstorm to a Shrine.
You can find this in Gerudo Town, in the house next to the bar. Talk to Rotana and she will tell you about the Seven Heroines in the desert. YUou can find them here on the map.
This one is kind of difficult until you figure out the trick. So there are seven bowls that need to have balls put into them. Use your magnet to see the balls and put them in the middle. Each statue has a symbol on it and the ball will also have a symbol on it. Some of the statues have the symbol on the bottom, some on the weapon and some on the op of the statue. Place the ball with the right symbol into the bowl of the statue with the same symbol. There is one ball up on top of a statue, if you are missing one. When you get them all right, the Shrine will pop up and you can enter.
Go there and talk to the Gerudo woman at the Shrine. She will need a Noble Pursuit which you can get from the bar in Gerudo Town. The Bartender will tell you she needs Ice from the ice room. Go to the Ice room and talk to the woman down there and carry the Ice back towards town. You will want to clear the enemies out before you run back because if the enemy hits you the ice will melt. When you get the Ice back, talk to the woman at the bar and then return to the Shrine to finish the quest.
