Dark Souls III

Dark Souls III
Dark Souls III is the third installment in the widely-lauded Dark Souls franchise of games and marks the return of director Hidetaka Miyazaki. Bringing back the classic unforgiving difficulty for which the franchise is known, Dark Souls III explores the saga of the Lord of Cinder in what is believed to be the final installment of the franchise.

Dark Souls III notably features faster combat than its predecessor, including faster movement and faster weapon swings, allowing the player to deal a large amount of damage in a short period of time. Of course, the enemies aren’t slacking either, and features brutally difficult AI systems, including enemies that can change their tactics during the course of a fight. The game also features a completely revamped Magic system, this time featuring a Magic bar that will be consumed as the player casts magic. This prompts the introduction of the ‘Ash Estus Flask’, which refills the magic bar.

Another notable addition to the game is the “Ready Stance”, which allows players to unleash devastating attacks on their foes, depending on the weapon they are using. With an increased focus on role-playing, players can expect to have further tactical options as compared to the previous games. Featuring what has been described as the “darkest” story in the series so far, Dark Souls III features fewer maps compared to its predecessor, but features larger scale and a meticulously interconnected world. Additional lore for the game can be unlocked through the cryptic ‘gravestones’, which the player may choose to light.

As usual, bosses remain a central focus for Dark Souls III, and a range of powerful bosses challenge the player’s progress, making their journey even harder than it already is. Unlike bosses from the previous games, the bosses in Dark Souls III may also change their tactics over the course of the battle, forcing players to adopt new tactics while in the middle of the fight.
