Elite: Dangerous

Elite Dangerous
Elite: Dangerous is the fourth game in the Elite series, and the first game in the series since Frontier: First Encounters back in 1995. The game is set in the far future, starting from the year 3300, and has players controlling a spaceship in a 1:1 scale, open world rendition of the Milky Way. For the first time in the Elite series, Elite: Dangerous introduces massively multiplayer gameplay, and player actions affect a persistent universe shared by other players of the game. The game is also notable for its support of virtual reality devices, taking players straight into the action.

The game is set 45 years after the events of Frontier: First Encounters and retains key elements of the franchise with  players piloting a spaceship, forced to their own devices to carve a path through the galaxy, and furthering their own ends, whether by abiding by the law or breaking it. Players can engage in trading, bounty-hunting, piracy and assassinations in a vast, open world, online multiplayer environment, whether player choices can affect the balance of the overall galaxy. Events in the galaxy are determined by the actions of these players, with emergent battles taking place frequently and the narrative of the galaxy being shaped by players’ interactions with the galaxy and with each other. Although the game is meant to be played in its multiplayer element, Open Play, it also features a Solo mode, in which players can explore the galaxy alone.

Although players start with only a small starship, they eventually earn credits through various means and find themselves able to upgrade their ship. Players can hunt, explore, fight, mine, smuggle and trade in order to survive. The game features 400 billion star systems in its galaxy, which is divided into three major factions: The Empire, The Federation and The Alliance. According to the developers, the galaxy in Elite: Dangerous represents the largest designed playspace in video game history. Starting with Patch 1.3, players can choose in-game factions and contribute to them by completing missions. Players are ranked according to their prowess in combat, CQC Championship, exploring and trading. The game is consistently expanding with new features and content, and updates that considerably and routinely change the way the game is played.
