Madden NFL 16 is the 2015 edition of the Madden NFL series, and features hectic American football action based on the National Football League. Developed by series veterans EA Tiburon, the game features numerous enhancements on the previous entry, including improved aesthetics, new player spotlights, dynamic goals and achievements, and cameras that are both on the field and off it.
The game features a collection of features dubbed “Air Supermacy”, which revolutionizes passing and catching, featuring over 400 two-player catch animations. In Air Supremacy, hand off and blocking have a tighter timing, and each play type has a captured hand off specifically designed for that play, making for hundreds of animations. Players can now “roll to pass”, which is integrated with the boot and roll out plays. One of the bonuses to the roll out is that players don’t suffer the same accuracy penalties as throwing while on the run. Scramble is also now more responsive. A new AI architecture named the “Behavior Coordinator” now makes for a more granular set of behaviors, allowing the CPU QBs to be extremely challenging compared to previous games in the series. Based on their traits, every style of QB will react differently.
Another new addition to Madden NFL 16 is the addition of the “body relative” throw, which allows players to throw a high jump ball or a low throw, forcing only the receiver to make a play on the ball. A new touch pass allows for easier execution of dropping the ball behind linebackers. The game also features a completely new catching system. As opposed to previous games, where players could only press one button to catch the ball, in Madden NFL 16, players can choose between three different catch types: the RAC (Run and Catch), in which the receiver turns up field during the catch hoping to gain yards; Aggressive Catch, which drives the receiver back to the ball and catch it at the highest point possible; and the Possession Catch, in which the receiver protects the ball with his body.
Additionally, players can use Draft Champions to play as a general manager and build a team through a draft. The Connected Franchise Mode lets players build their teams from top to bottom, controlling every decision from concession prices to relocation. The playmaker highlight reel also allows for new player spotlights in an NFL Films inspired presentation.
