GWENT: The Witcher Card Game Redesigns Player Progression

CD Projekt Red today announced the largest update in the Closed Beta history of GWENT: The Witcher Card Game, the standalone online card title based on the hugely popular GWENT mini-game from the critically acclaimed The Witcher 3.

Today’s update introduces Ranked Matches, a complete overhaul to the player progression system and over a dozen new cards alongside a debut of animated premium versions of some of the game’s most popular cards so far. For a full list of changes to individual cards check out the change log.

GWENT: The Witcher Card Game now features Ranked Play, a competitive-based game mode that works in a similar fashion to other games in the genre. Players earn points for victories in Ranked that accumulates and adjusts divisions accordingly, aiming to ensure a fair and balanced experience as the season progresses.

Before today’s update GWENT: The Witcher Card Game was a rather hostile environment for the new and learning players. The reward system only offered rewards for the winning player, creating a huge gap in available cards and deck potential between members of the community. Today’s update redesigns the progression system to base rewards on the half-crowns earned. This means winning even a single round will now guarantee rewards.
