SMITE’s World Championship Prize Pool Surpasses $2.1 Million

Smite News
Despite the obvious dominance of Riot Games’ League of Legends, Hi-Rez Studios today announced that the SMITE World Championships are well on the way to competing with a staggering $2.1M prize pool – surpassing that of any prior League of Legends event.

The huge prize pool for the January World Championship event was raised directly by the SMITE community itself, through the in-game purchasing of unique skins, exclusive wards and other in-game items tied to the hugely popular Odyssey
Each microtransaction generated by the Odyssey contributes directly to the overall jackpot that eight teams from around the world will battle for in front of a live auditorium and online audience next month. The Odyssey will continue to add to the final payout of the SWC in the coming weeks. The final sum – which is still growing – will be awarded in front of the world at the conclusion of the SWC, January 9 – 11, 2015 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta.
