The Biggest Announcements from the August 2020 State of Play


Focusing on upcoming PlayStation releases, Sony unveiled their latest State of Play segment earlier today. Catch up on the highlights with our recap post.

Bugsnax

Players will be able to pay a visit to the island of Bugsnax in Young Horses’ (Octodad: Dadliest Catch) upcoming title Bugsnax. Players visit this unique area for their latest scoop, despite C. Clumby Clumbernut’s dismay. The latest gameplay trailer for the title showcases a number of creatures, gadgets, and denizens players will come across.

The game will come out for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 this holiday season.

Braid, Anniversary Edition

A game where time is on your side, Braid, Anniversary Edition remakes the 2008 title for a new generation. This puzzle adventure game features a number of re-envisioned areas and has been designed to look even more like a living painting. Improvements have also been made to sound, motion, and animation.

The title will come out for the PlayStation 4 in early 2021.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time

The latest adventure for gaming’s favorite orange marsupial, this State of Play took a deep dive into Toys for Bob’s upcoming title Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. Highlights include new gameplay mechanics, new playable characters, and new ways to play.

The game will come out for the PlayStation 4 on October 2, 2020.

The Pathless

Designed by the same team behind ABZÛ, Giant Squid’s new title The Pathless has players becoming the Hunter. This master of archery travels to a mystical island, where he must dispel a curse and contend with corrupted spirits. Along the way, the Hunter can bond with their eagle friend, explore misty forests, and solve puzzles.

The game will come out for the PlayStation 5 this holiday season.

Aeon Must Die

Focus Home Interactive and Limestone Games are setting out to ignite the galaxy with their new title Aeon Must Die! In this beat-em-up, players will travel across the futuristic city of Pantheon as they set out to destroy (or subdue) all those that have betrayed Aeon. Through all of this, players must fight for their mind, control, and free will.

The game will come out in 2021 for the PlayStation 4.

Genshin Impact

Players will be able to go on an adventure with the release of miHoYo’s open world action RPG Genshin Impact. Starting out as a Traveler, players will be able to explore by walking, swimming, climbing, and even gliding.

The game will come out for the PlayStation 4 in Fall 2020.

Hood: Outlaws & Legends

Players will be able to gather their team of outlaws and attempt to steal treasure from an oppressive government in the medieval world of Hood: Outlaws & Legends. In this title, two teams of players will compete to execute the perfect heist, all in environments that are heavily patrolled.

The game will come out for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2021.

Temtem

Crema’s creature collecting MMO Temtem will transport players to the Airborne Archipelago. Much like the Pokemon series of games, players will set out to catch all Temtem, battle tamers, customize their character, join others’ adventures, and explore its online world.

The game will come out for the PlayStation 5 in 2021.

Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series

Designed by the team at ILMxLAB, Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series brings Lucasfilm’s time-honored franchise to the world of VR.

The game will come out for PlayStation VR on August 25, 2020.

Godfall

Players were able to take an extended look at Counterplay Games’ Godfall with more than nine minutes of new gameplay footage. Highlights include a showcase of the world off Aperion, the title’s five weapon classes, the complete movesets for the Dual Blades and Longswords, and more.

The game will come out for the PlayStation 5 this holiday season.

Spelunky 2

Get ready to go to the Moon and meet up with the next generation of cave explorers with the upcoming release of Mossmouth’s Spelunky 2. The latest trailer shows how players will be able to build an in-game community and family, along with the stories players will create.

The title will come out for the PlayStation 4 on September 15, 2020.

ANNO: Mutationem

An action-adventure game set in a cyberpunk world, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Thinking Stars’ ANNO: Mutationem will combine RPG elements, pixelated 2D & 3D graphics, and a rich, dark and bizarre plot together to create something grand.

The game will come out for the PlayStation 4 in December 2020.

The Pedestrian

Developed by Skookum Arts, The Pedestrian features a unique set of puzzle platforming challenges in a flat world.

The game will come out for the PlayStation 4 in 2021.

Control Expansion 2 – AWE

The latest expansion for Remedy’s Control, AWE brings with it new story content and side missions, along with new weapons and mods. Players will enter the Investigations Sector, and will confront the creature lurking within this abandoned part of the Bureau.

The expansion will launch on the PlayStation 4 on August 27, 2020.

HITMAN 3 – VR

The entire World of Assassination trilogy will be available in VR with the upcoming release of IO Interactive’s HITMAN 3.

The game will come out for the PlayStation VR in January 2021.
