In a Xbox One unboxing video earlier today, Larry Hryb released a ton of interesting info about the upcoming console. The first thing that struct me while watching the video, was that the Xbox One will one will come with a 4K resolution rated HDMI cable. After doing a little digging, this made some good sense and should be exciting for Microsoft and video game fans alike. It is confirmed, the Xbox One will support 4K resolution media as well as 4K resolution games and up scaling 1080p games into a 4K resolution. All of this hullabaloo is reportedly confirmed in a Polygon story where it says a representative from Microsoft has confirmed native 4K resolution and upscaling for games.

What does this mean for the console wars? It makes it a bit more interesting at the very least. If the Xbox One is 4K ready, out of box, for games and for media, that gives it a leg up on any of the competition. Not only will 4K be a better resolution, but it also means that the system will be much more future proof than any other system on the market, including the PS4. This will make the Xbox One look just a little bit better in the eyes of consumer and media buffs alike.
There is still more to know, still more to uncover and still nuggets of truth hiding underneath the surface for both of the next generation consoles releasing this holiday season. But with those dates coming so quickly it is quite a bomb to learn that the Xbox One will support 4K media and games out of the box, while the President of Sony has been quoted saying the PS4 will not play 4K games. Here is to things getting more and more interesting in video games!
