So here is where I would nit pick about something in Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D but honestly it is still the great game from before that I love. I'd like to see it in HD sure but the 3D is nice and really it is the only thing I play on my 3ds outside of the virtual console. Out side of a few blurs it looks good though.

If you bought a 3DS you most likely bought it for Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D. So here it is 13 years later the much anticipated remake of the game. Question is has it withstood the test of time? Or has it fallen to newer and better Zeldas? Check out our review and find out!

To clarify this is not a remake of the Zelda Ocarina of Time, but more of a enhanced port. It adds better graphics with 3d support, Master quest mode and boss rush mode. The original Zelda Ocarina of Time only had the main game on it. Master quest mode is a harder mode of the game. Boss rush mode is what you think it is fighting bosses one after another trying to beat times. This review will let you know whether you should pick it up or not.

In Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D you play as Link. Basically you have to go throughout the world of Hyrule and save the world. You do this by beating dungeons and collecting gems and seals. You can also do side quests and mini games along the way to pass the time if you don’t want to do the main quest. There is plenty to do in the main game and with the edition of Master quest you can play it for a long while.

The story is pretty basic but it gets the job done. After the first dungeon you find out the Ganon is the main bad guy but of course no one thinks he is. You have to attempt to stop him from entering the sacred realm and in order to do that you need to get all the gems from the first 3 dungeons. After the first 3 dungeons you obtain the master sword and go 7 years into the future. It was a smart play by them because it feels natural to play as adult Link. After that you need to get 6 seals and finally face off with Ganon.

The game play in Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D has withstood the test of time. There is a reason nearly every game like it has a lock on mechanic. You lock on to an enemy and slash with your sword or block with shield. They also have tons of items in the game ranging from bombs to a bow an arrow. You can only have 4 items out at a time but they made it easy to switch. While in combat you can do different sword attacks and evasion tactics as well. Link is very agile apparently because he can back flip, somersault, roll and side step all with a sword and shield. Aiming is pretty easy with the lock on but you can also go into first person and shoot some things. They added a function to the 3ds that you can actually move the 3ds and aim with it or use the stick. I actually took that option off and just used the stick I couldn’t really hold my hands still. You can ride a horse, swim and even float in some parts of the game. Needless to say the game play is pretty much perfect even for a 13 year old game.

Next in the Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D review we will look at the video and audio aspect of the game. Being as it is on a hand held I wouldn’t compare it to anything on the consoles or a PC. That said I don’t really feel that the game was pushing the limited of the system. It looks way better don’t get me wrong and I played the entire game in 3d with no problems but it could of been better. You will also run into spots that they just kind of skipped over and they look really blurry. Still it’s pretty good. The audio is what made this game back in the day and it is mostly unchanged from the original. If you listen closely you can hear a few tweaks but it still sounds just as good as it did before. Catchy tunes and perfect timing is what makes this games audio still one of the best in the business.

Now for the longevity of the game. People have been playing it for 13 years need I say more? No but really this game is still great to this day and with the addition of Master quest and boss rush mode along with the side quests in the game you will likely be putting well over 30 hours into it. If you are competitive about your boss times then probably even more. It’s one of those games that after you play and beat you will likely re pick up and play through again a few months later just because it is a great game.

So here is where I would nit pick about something in Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D but honestly it is still the great game from before that I love. I’d like to see it in HD sure but the 3D is nice and really it is the only thing I play on my 3ds outside of the virtual console. Out side of a few blurs it looks good though.

That’s it for the Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D review. If you have a 3ds pick it up. Not just because the 3ds doesn’t really have any games but because it is a great game.
