The long hot summer marches on, but there are still a few releases coming out before the rush of new titles begins next month. On that note, we at Gamers Heroes take a look at 5 games we’re looking forward to in August. Oh, and we won’t make you click through five pages to look at the entire list.
5 Games We’re Looking Forward to in August
Created by the same development team as I am Setsuna and Lost Sphear, Square-Enix and Tokyo RPG Factory’s JRPG Oninaki tells of Kagachi, a Watcher who sets out to protect Life after Death. In doing so, he can manifest the souls of Daemons, and can freely travel between the realm of the living and the Beyond. We’re looking forward to experiencing this throwback, which channels the spirit of action RPGs.
Oninaki will come out for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on August 22.
Metal Wolf Chaos XD
Once an Xbox exclusive in Japan, Devolver Digital and General Arcade are bringing FromSoftware’s Metal Wolf Chaos XD to a new generation. Players will take on the role of President Michael Wilson, who pilots a mech and fights against VP Richard Hawk. Destructible environments are included, and players can equip up to eight weapons. We’re looking forward to the quality of life improvements this title will feature, which includes an increased resolution and widescreen support.
Metal Wolf Chaos XD will come out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on August 6.
Inspired by the Blair Witch series, Bloober Team expands on its lore with the Blair Witch video game. Taking place in 1996, players take control of former police officer Ellis as they search for a missing boy in the Black Hills Forest. Players will navigate this forest with their dog Bullet, reacting to danger and doing everything under pressure. We’re looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere of its world.
Blair Witch will come out for the Xbox One and PC on August 30.
The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan
The latest interactive drama horror game from Supermassive Games (Until Dawn), Bandai Namco’s The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan has players taking control of five characters that are trapped on a ghost ship. The choices players make help to determine who lives and who dies. We’re looking forward to experiencing this interactive story, and also playing through its two multiplayer modes.
The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan will come out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on August 30.
PlatinumGames “synergistic action game” Astral Chain will finally come out for the Nintendo Switch this month. To build up combos, players will take control of a special weapon called a Legion the same time as the character. Players can also change between Legions at will throughout the game. We’re looking forward to diving into its rich combat system.
Astral Chain will come out for the Nintendo Switch on August 30.
