It seems to take an age for TellTale games to release the new episodes of The Walking Dead but Episode 3, Long Road Ahead, has finally arrived. This The Walking Dead Guide: Long Road Ahead Guide will guide you through each conversational choice, the various outcomes and some individual guides for more difficult challenges within Episode 3. Although I’ve done my very best to avoid any serious spoilers, there’s going to be a few so please be aware of that as you read on. Depending on the choices you made during Episode 1 and Episode 2, you’ll have different survivors and conversation choices, but for the most part the outcomes remain the same. Feel free to submit any corrections or discoveries you make during your exploration of the Long Road Ahead, I’ll add it to the guide and credit with your name.
After the conversation with Kenny, you’re given free roam of the nearby area. You should speak with everyone before speaking with Lilly and Carley, or the guy in her place. There’s nothing in terms of influence, but it’s good to keep up-to-date with everyone’s feelings for future choices.
If you’re struggling with the Shootout, check the Quests & Missions guide section at the bottom of the page.
The total choices you make accumulate to make a final decision. I ended up siding with Carly for the majority of the conversational choices. Not that there was much point.
This is where your decision to tell the others about your criminal past comes into effect. If you told everyone, your decision with Lilly sticks.
You’re given free roam here to explore the train cart. Obviously I left Lilly behind so not sure if she’s involved here or not. I’ll only include conversation choices below, if you get stuck on the train check the Quests & Missions section at the bottom.
Before speaking with Clementine, you can search the Cart for a bottle of Whiskey. You can share it with Chuck and it has an effect. You can then tell Kenny to have a drink and grab the map.
Cutting Clementines hair will make it safer. Teaching her how to shoot will teach her how to defend herself
That marks the end of our The Walking Dead Guide: Long Road Ahead Guide. Check back next month for the release of episode 4 and our Around Every Corner Guide.
Quests & Missions Guide
Right at the beginning of Chapter 1, the amount of stuff you’re able to collect has a large impact. I’m not entirely sure of the effect if you’re not able to gather many supplies, but it’s best to fill your backpack as quickly as possible. The fastest way to collect a lot of supplies is to instantly click every item you see on your screen. Then search to the left, grab the item and check the cupboard below. Left again and grab the last few items before the Walkers break in. It’s very simple but this is a guaranteed technique if you’re struggling.
The Broken Flashlight
Again, not exactly a difficult part of Long Road Ahead, but it’s easy to miss stuff. Once you leave Lilly’s room, head left to the corner of the Motel. You’ll find some broken glass on the floor that matches the Flashlight. After that inspect the chalk “X” on the wall round the corner. You can speak to everyone about the Flashlight and Chalk but it has no effect. Speak to Clementine about the chalk and it will initiate a cut-scene if you accepted Duck’s help. He’ll tell you where he found the chalk. Inspect the floor to find more chalk. Once you leave the Motel, walk to your right and you’ll find a grate. Search the grate and grab the back to automatically return to the Motel and speak with Lilly.
After the conversation with the Bandit’s a shootout begins. It’s relatively simple. Check to the left first, shoot the Bandit hiding behind the dumpster. And then shoot the Bandit that attempts to flank your left. This frees Carly and Ben. Head to the right and then shoot the 3 Bandits and the Walker. After everyone but Lilly is inside, shoot two Walkers on the right, two on the left, then two on the right. Repeat until Lilly enters the RV.
The Train Wreck – How to start the train in The Walking Dead Long Road Ahead
Before you start exploring the train go into the RV and examine the console at the front. Take the pencil. After doing so, head back outside and go to the tram door to your left. Pick up the map and then collect the bottle of water before exiting out of the door. Return the bottle of water to Duck. Katjaa will be grateful for your help. Return the map to Kenny. Head to the very front of the train, up the stairs and search the Engineer. After the cut-scene and Kenny takes the chair, check the notepad just next to him. Use the pencil to read the notepad. After you’ve read the notepad turn to console number 6 and flip the switches so that they’re in this order. Down, Down, Up, Up, Up, Down, Up. Then interact with console number 5 and make the first switch horizontal. Head out the door and open the last door to the engine compartment. Turn the number 9 switch left then right. Go back into the Cab Door and try to start the train. When you go back outside check the third door to the engine and grab the spanner. Head back into the other tram and jump out the other side. Walk to the back and use the Spanner on the Coupler Pin.
