UPDATE: Servers OK as of 1:24 PM PDT 5/17/2012
For about a day now most of the servers have been running smoothly. For a brief hour Diablo 3 servers in the America’s where taken down for maintenance but seemed to come right back up an hour later as promised. There is however a little bit of glitching still going on with the system. Even while playing single player by myself I seem to get lag. Jumping and jittering around even if it is only once or twice during a game play session and is annoying. Also in game chat doesn’t seem to be very reliable. People have complained of private messages or chats not even going through to the other person. Also there is some weird hiccups with quick joining games. For some reason backing out and re-signing in to Battle Net may help this.
The reason Blizzard put Diablo 3 on a server was to stop pirating and stealing the game. If their servers worked properly and didn’t hinder play it could have been a good option. However, other companies have tried things like online passes or even just an online certification when the game starts that may have been a better option for Blizzard. The Diablo Community already was up in arms about the servers before the day of launch and with all the problems still associated with the servers people are going to stay angry for a while. UPDATE: Server Still Undergoing Maintenance as of 2:43 PM PDT 5/15/2012
It still seems Diablo III servers are undergoing maitanance. The Battle Net forum has been a buzz and Community Manager Nethaera released a new announcement at 1:55 PM PDT that reads:
1:55 p.m. PDT – Starting at approximately 2:15 p.m. PDT, we will be bringing Diablo III servers in the Americas offline for urgent maintenance to address several issues that are impacting the game. We anticipate that maintenance will last for about an hour and that servers will be available at approximately 3:30 p.m. PDT. We will provide further updates as they are necessary. Thank you for your patience. – Nethaera @ Emergency Maintenance Forum
The lack of apparent fixes for server issues has been a significant blow to community’s feelings. Scouring Diablo III forums many people are upset and not afraid to show it. Many sites had live streams planned to show off the game and have had to move these events back. With these events being moved back or even possibly canceled free publicity for Diablo III, while not necessarily needed, will be missed. Lets all hope the Diablo III servers come back online soon!
UPDATE: Server Undergoing Maintenance as of 12:28 PM PDT 5/15/2012
After playing over 6 hours of awesome Diablo III-ness I had to pass out for a while. When I finally got back up the servers were down yet again. From what Blizzard is saying servers are currently down for maintenance in North America and should come back online around 1:30 PM PDT. Hopefully they are patching problems including a game breaking bug that can lock people out of their account. Apparently if you switch shields with a Templar follower you can cause Blizzards servers to come out of sync and in return get a 3006 error. Some players have even complained that this error has locked them out of their Battle Net account all together. People are frustrated all over the internet because of the server problems and I can’t help but frustrated a little with them. See you in Diablo III!
After decades of waiting it looks like Diablo III players will have to wait a little bit longer. Although Blizzard touted about their support out of the gate it looks like the massive amount of people logging on has overloaded game servers. Players are experiencing multiple errors while trying to login, create characters and even in game. Some people where practically locked out of their account after an in game bug.
The good news it seems like the team at blizzard is trying very hard to get the servers back up. Opening new servers and shutting down their own website to free up as much server space as possible. When visiting the site I recieved the above image of a 404 Page Not Found error.
