Massive Amount of New Mortal Kombat X News Announced

With one 2 minute video, Ed Boon reveals a huge amount of news regarding the upcoming Mortal Kombat title, Mortal Kombat X. New characters, new combat mechanics, new villains, it’s quite the trailer. The trailer, featured below, details the announcement of Raiden coming to Mortal Kombat X. However a keen eye would also notice a variety of other news in said trailer.

For starters, the trailer showcases a few characters on the roster. In addition to Raiden, the trailer shows Sonya Blade to be in the next installment, as well as two currently unidentified fighters. It also shows what appears to be a zombie/cyborg version of Sub Zero, though it’s hard to tell what he’ll look like from a small face template. Even more, it reveals that one of the new villains for Mortal Kombat X is an entirely new character, Kotal Kahn. Kotal Kahn is a new emperor who has taken over the Outworld, though his relation to Shao Kahn (if any) is currently unclear.

The next thing the trailer reveals is that presumably every fighter will have three fighting styles to choose from, for players to choose their tactics and strategies for each character. Raiden’s is the only one revealed so far, though we can expect more character trailers in the near future. Raiden’s three fighting styles are the Thunder God, Displacer, and Storm Lord. As Ed Boon puts it:

The Thunder God variation enhances Raiden’s lightning attacks, allowing him to string longer combos and do more damage. In his Displacer variation, Raiden gains new teleportation moves that make him difficult to contain and more mobile in combat. And finally, Storm Lord Raiden can create lightning traps with wide areas of effect that allow him to control the battlefield.

You can view the full trailer below. Mortal Kombat X is scheduled to be released in 2015 for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4.

The Retro Goat Reacts: Oh man, this is gonna suck to deal with. I absolutely love Mortal Kombat, and all this news in a single trailer puts me in a great mood, but Raiden is going to become even more of a pain to fight. Ever since the first Mortal Kombat, he’s been a thorn in my side, and now he’s got a few new tricks. I do like the new fighting style implement, since it gives me something fresh and new to try out. It’ll take a bit of getting used to, but I’m really interested in seeing the new styles for each character.

Kotal Kahn seems like he’ll be fun to punch, though I don’t know how I feel about his design. He looks like he’d be more at home in the God of War series, but Kratos was in the last game so I doubt we’ll be seeing the two square off in the near future. He does give off this vibe that he’s much more cunning than Shao Kahn, and I am intrigued by his presence. I also expect Shinnok in this game, given his tease at the end of Mortal Kombat 9. and I’m pretty interested in how those two will react if they end up meeting or joining forces. Overall, this has only furthered my hope for Mortal Kombat X. Also, this trailer didn’t have rap music! Hooray!
