Marvel Pinball 3D Review

The game is cheap, addictive and easy to pick up and put back down. There are tons of amazing features that are packed into a $7.99 price point. Lets face it, right now you don't have much else to do with your Nintendo 3DS.

The Nintendo eShop and Virtual Console most of the time are leaps and bounds behind other online marketplaces. Marvel Pinball 3D is a title that released on June 28th from Zen Studios and is a good reason to dust off the 3DS. Knocking around crazy metal balls while with cheesy actions from standing Marvel figures is just a good time.

The game, for a downloadable title for the 3DS, is surprisingly full of features. There are four tables that include The Invincible Ironman, Fantastic Four, Captain America and Blade. These tables have not only the character themselves but also have designs that look as though they where pulled out of an 80’s pinball hall. The 3D effect on these tables really give another dimension and look beautiful. I found myself plugging my 3DS in just so that I could continue playing in 3D.

One very welcomed addition to this game that is missed by most 3DS titles is an online leader board. There is a full section of leader boards ranging from your local machine, your friends, your country and the world. Such a little detail that probably leaked over from Zen Studio’s work on the console side gives players a reason to go back to the game over and over again. Seeing your friend’s score in your reach is both aggravating and motivating giving this game an addictive personality.

Each table has a set of awards that you can unlock. They range from different events for hitting specific spots on tables to score ranges. These achievement like rewards are just another reason to visit tables over and over again. Plus, the awards are really difficult to unlock! This gives a simple game like video pinball a system to push players to be more accurate to see special events on boards and rack up insane scores.
