How To Use Summons In Final Fantasy 7 Remake

How To Use Summons In Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Summon Materia is rare, valuable, and powerful. This guide on How To Use Summons In Final Fantasy 7 Remake breaks down how to use Summons in combat as the FF7R system is closer to that of Final Fantasy XV than the original Final Fantasy 7.

Depending on where you gain access to summons, some of this information may not make sense. If you pre-ordered Final Fantasy 7 Remake and got DLC summons with it, you will unlock the ability to use Summon Materia after you complete the first reactor mission and speak with Jessie about the Materia tutorial. However, if you do not have any DLC, you will have to progress further into the story. You cannot miss the first summon, it’s part of the story.

How To Use Summons In Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Once you have a Summon Materia you must first equip it. It doesn’t take up a regular Materia slot so it can go on almost any weapon – assuming you don’t already have a Summon Materia on that weapon. Once equipped, it’s down to a bit of luck and a bit of chance. Much like Final Fantasy XV.

You cannot choose when to use Summon Materia but there appears to be three main aspects to take into account. Firstly, important battles. If you are fighting a powerful enemy or even a boss, Summons are very likely to appear regardless of any other circumstances. The other two main points are enemy difficulty and character health. For example, during the early stages when you fight The Huntsman, he beat me down to about 20% HP. At this point the summon gauge appears.

Once the Summon Gauge appears you just need to survive long enough for it to fill. Once it has filled, open the action menu and select Summon. You sill need the appropriate amount of ATB gauge to use it so pay close attention to that. If you are in a non-boss battle, it seems there is a higher chance of Summons appearing when you are at low health. Worry not, they are far more common than FFXV.
