Divinity: Original Sin II

Divinity Original Sin II
Divinity: Original Sin 2 is the sequel to Larian Studio’s 2014 surprise hit, Divinity: Original Sin. Once again crowd-funded over Kickstarter, Divinity: Original Sin 2 is set in a world where the Bishop Alexander has declared all sorcerers to be criminals, prompting a group of 4 sorcerers to set out to defeat him.

This time around, players can choose their character’s statistics, race and origin story at the start of the game. Compared to the original game, Divinity: Original Sin 2’s narrative is described by the developers as more ‘serious’, and features writing by veteran RPG writer Chris Avellone. A prominent theme in the game is that your origins affect what choices you get in life, making the choice of an origin story all the more important. The character can then pick up to 3 companions, all of whom are playable in multiplayer mode, allowing for 4-player co-op.

The game features a brand new dialogue system, and this time around, dialogue is almost entirely determined by who is doing the talking, allowing for vast replay-ability and role-playing possibilities. With the 4-player co-operative play, players may end up disagreeing on goals and even end up contrary to each other, resulting in competitive play. The competitive play is optional and initiated entirely by the player’s choices.

Also featured in the game is a brand new crafting system, to make most of the world of Divinity: Original Sin 2. A brand new feature allows for skill crafting, so that players can choose to combine skills together to create devastating new skills. For example, combining a bleeding spell like ‘lacerate’ with ‘rain’ can result in a shower of blood over your target. Other new features include a new cover system, and push/pull mechanics, allowing Sorcerers to push or pull enemies into their desired area of effect. Additionally, players can use Source Points to use Source Skills. Source Points are rare, and Dark Sorcerers can choose to obtain them by absorbing the bodies of the fallen.

The game also features an expanded editor that was used to create the game itself, allowing modders to work on their own scenarios.
