Assassin’s Creed Unity
Assassin’s Creed Unity takes the series to Paris in the late 18th century, during the French Revolution, and follows the adventures of Arno Dorian as he fights the powers of the Templars while the French Revolution rages around him. Arno Dorian, born in Versailles, is the son of a nobleman whose father is killed when he is only a child. He is adopted by another nobleman, and upon coming of age, learns that his birth father was in fact an Assassin, while his adoptive father is a Templar.
Uncovering the mysteries of the Assassins and Templars, Arno finds himself entangled in a grandiose power struggle between the two, with his love interest, Elise De LaSerre being on the opposite side of the fence. The game traces the French Revolution from its eve and follows such important moments in the Revolution as the storming of the Bastille and the Reign of Terror, extending all the way to the Thermidorian Reaction in 1794. The game also features ‘time anomalies’ embedded in the game world, which take the player on brief tours to other times of Paris’ history, such as the Belle Époque and World War II.
As in previous games, Assassin’s Creed Unity features a vast open world which the player can explore freely. The game is mainly set in the map of Paris, but also briefly features a map set in Versailles, as well as one set in Saint-Denis. The game features a rebuilt combat system, based mainly on fencing. The series’ traditional parkour mechanics were overhauled so that players can now scale up and down buildings with increased ease. Arno also increases his repertoire of moves over the course of the game, and can purchase new skills as well. The game also notably features enormous crowds to properly render the scale of the French Revolution, which the player can use to hide Arno. The player can also fully customize their version of Arno using a new skill tree, and purchase a very wide range of weapons, including swords, axes, rifles, spears and pistols.
Assassin’s Creed unity is also notable for introducing co-op multiplayer to the franchise: players can play with up to four other players to complete missions, including special missions designed explicitly for co-op play. The game also features tie-ins with the Assassin’s Creed Unity Companion App, such as chests, assassination targets and other collectibles that are accessible only to those who have played and made progress in the app.
