The Amazing Spider-Man 2
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a sequel to 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man. Its various editions were developed by different developers, with Beenox handling most of the platforms, High Voltage Software handling the 3DS version of the game, and Gameloft handling iOS and Android versions of the game. In keeping with the Spider-Man franchise, the game follows Peter Parker, also known as the vigilante Spider-Man, who now sets out to find the killer of Dennis Carradine, the man who murdered Peter’s Uncle Ben. In doing so, however, Peter comes across a much larger threat to New York City that has turned the underworld upside-down. Although the game is not based on the movie of the same name, it features villains from the film, and other characters from the Marvel universe.
The game is set in a vast, open-world Manhattan city-scape that has been made more expansive, detailed and spacious than the previous game in the series, The Amazing Spider-Man. The player is free to roam in this world as they see fit throughout all versions of the game, excepting the 3DS version, which is a side-scroller. The city is divided into districts and features new crimes such as arson and hostage situations that Spider-Man must put an end to.
The game features a brand new web-swing mechanic, that includes expanded web-shooter capabilities and chemical properties, allowing players to blow up items or freeze enemies. Unlike the preceding game, web-swinging in this game involves attaching webs to buildings, and if the player does not have space to swing around in, the player will be left unable to web, and forced to fall. Another few feature to the game is the “Hero or Menace” system, in which the player is rewarded for acting as Spider-Man in-role, and stopping crime or saving citizens. The game also features a number of new abilities, animations and enhancements, making the game more fluid than its predecessor. A range of new enemy types have been introduced, including armored guards, who can be taken down either by stealth or using the Ionic Web upgrade.
This also marks the first time in the The Amazing Spider-Man series that the player is able to play as Peter Parker and access Parker’s home, where his room allows the player to replay previous missions, purchase upgrades and equip the many different costumes available. The player can collect audio logs from around the city, which can then be replayed.
