Wolfenstein The New Order

Wolfenstein The New Order
Wolfenstein: The New Order marks the return of the Wolfenstein franchise, for the first time being developed by Swedish developer MachineGames. The game is set in alternate history 1960, in which Nazi Germany successfully defeated the Allies to win the Second World War. Now with access to highly developed, advanced technologies, the Nazis ruling the world under a New Order, it falls on war hero Captain William “B.J.” Blazkowicz to join the surviving Resistance, find other allies and fight the Nazis to bring down the New Order and its Nazi supremacy. The game marks the second time the id Tech 5 engine has been used, after Rage in 2011, and the first time the engine has been used by a developer outside of id Software. The game notably only features a single-player campaign, and no multiplayer, co-op or otherwise.

Wolfenstein: The New Order introduces a section-based health system, in which each section regenerates as health is lost. The player is forced to use health packs, however, if a section is completely depleted. Players can use stealth to a limited degree, using melee weapons to take out enemies without being detected. The game also implements a cover system, which B.J. can use to hide behind and lean out of to fight enemies with a greater tactical advantage. Players can use weapons found off the ground, scavenged from dead enemies or even removed from stationery posts. Players can can carry as many weapons as they find, hearkening back to old-school first person shooter games. Players can also dual wield some of the weapons to double their firepower, while trading off the ability to aim down sights. Players can further customise weapons using upgrades as well.

The game notably features 1960s-inspired music, including eight original songs and a score composed by Mick Gordon. Another notable feature in the game is a morality choice present in the early portion of the game, which changes the storyline completely, based on the player’s choice. The player is encouraged to play the game twice to experience both storylines.
